Interesting. Sounds like something a person with a strong internal locus of control would say.

The opposite would be "Life is the sum of the things that happen to you"

I think it's probably somewhere in between. But it is interesting sometimes we think we don't have control when we actually do.

Somewhat near the glass is half empty, or half full. What I particularly liked about the statement, is that in varying ways at least for myself, is that it introduces in my mind's eye, 'forward thinking'. I mean, you've got to know your past, to realize your present location to help figure out your future bearing.

True. Cause and effect is what it's all about. If you can recognize it clearly enough, then you can more easily navigate this world. That's basically the main point of Buddhism too
