This whole geographical region (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh) was comprised of numerous kingdoms which were occupied(?) by British colonisers. Before that, this region was not technically a country. I don't know about english language being used for translation but it does sound logical. Before the English, there were certain people, usually poets and experts in literature that practiced multiple languages and helped in translations.
Feel free to ask me any questions you may have about India. By the way, you misspelled "insight". The word you used "incite" means encourage or stir up (violent or unlawful behaviour)
