If we are counting on going to Mars because we've already written off living on this planet sustainably, then we are fuckity fucked. This sounds insane to me, even under the worst earth scenarios mars seems much shittier. There's no atmosphere.

Yeah people confuse Star Trek with reality. It's doubtful people could even survive the trip there. We should still try but whoever goes needs to understand it is likely to be a suicide mission.
