We’re excited to share the news that we have entered into an agreement with Universal Music Group (UMG) that give music fans on Twitch access to some of the world’s most popular music artists by fostering the creation of channels for artists and labels and bringing exclusive music-based content to Twitch

As part of this agreement, UMG has also opted to follow our new music reporting process for reporting the unauthorized use of their music on Twitch, similar to our agreements with Warner Music Group (WMG) and the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) that were announced at the end of last year. This new process recognizes that not all unauthorized uses of music merits the same treatment and focuses on specific use-cases that are the most flagrant. It’s also more flexible and forgiving to creators who inadvertently or incidentally include these rights holders’ music in their stream and will result in creators receiving a warning before the first penalty is issued for each of the identified use-cases. If you would like to learn more about this process, please read the Reporting Process for Participating Music Rights Holders.

It’s important to note that this new process does not change how music can be used on Twitch. It’s never okay to include music in your channel unless you have the necessary rights or authority to do so. Including unauthorized music in your channel violates the rights of music creators and runs counter to Twitch’s mission of supporting all creators.
