The world would definitely need it - the problem is such an investigation would also pose a problem for Trump because of deep involvement of USA in Chinese viral and biotech research. The damage cleaner Anthony Fauci was appointed by Trump, not by progressives. Too many conservative senators and congressmen are also involved in biotech and pharmaceutical research.

The Battle Ahead: Science vs. RFK Jr. The article tries to doubt and ridicule JFK Jr. attitudes in every sentence, which indeed doesn't indicate a great sign of scientific humility. The change of strategy would be welcomed here. It wouldn't control the damage already made - but at least it would be a good start.
