Chinese ship’s crew deliberately dragged its anchor to cut undersea data cables - Russian intelligence is suspected to be behind the operation
European investigators believe a Chinese-owned commercial ship deliberately dragged its anchor to sabotage the two undersea telecommunications cables cut in the Baltic Sea earlier this month. However, Western law enforcement and intelligence officials told The Wall Street Journal that they don’t believe the Chinese government was involved. Instead, the probe is focused on whether Russian intelligence persuaded the vessel’s captain to carry out the operation. See also:
Russia Issues Ominous Warning About Undersea Internet Cables Russian ships have been found “loitering” around Ireland and Iceland. The areas they’re loitering are coincidentally where transatlantic cables are.

Russia is sure to lose in Ukraine, reckons a Chinese expert on Russia Similarly to USA during WWW II, China is now motivated to support weaker part of conflict just for profit, until war is going. But defeat of Russia would also open Siberia for China, which isn't in USA interests. The memo is simple: agressor will newer win the big war: no matter whether Hitler, Napoleon or Putin. And aggessor is this one who crosses boundary first. Not to say against three times smaller nation. This isn't even fight but a plain bullying. And bulliers are in deep psychological dissadvantage: they can never feel fully right about their intentions.

The problem of Republicans is that they behave more like commies during McCarthy's era by now. Instead of fighting Russia they support it... They don't even remember Reagan's history despite that they refer to it all the time.
Reagan was true conservative, but conservatives without memory aren't even progressive - they're just a plain clowns.

Patrushev at a closed meeting of the Russian Security Council reveals the true Russian motivations for "denazification" of Ukraine.
If we don't conquer Ukraine now... We're losing everything! We will not receive shale gas deposits in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions. We will not get such" critical raw materials " as lithium, cobalt, scandium, graphite, tantalum, niobium and others... which Ukraine is rich in. We will not get a source of bread and food... where there are huge reserves, surplus bread, but it is difficult to take them immediately, there is still Bandera... We must move at least three million companies from northern hungry Russia to Ukraine.
He forget to mention wast oil fields around Crimea and shale gas reserves in Luhansk. Russia apparently wants West to think, that lost of Donetsk and Crimea regions is palatable for the West, because strategical raw-source reserves are somewhere else.. See also:

Ukraine also has 10% of the world's iron reserves, 6% of titanium and 20% of graphite. Putin knows that controlling the lithium and gas supplies will give him a stranglehold over Europe, but controlling the grain output gives him the leverage to prevent countries from creating any kind of coalition against this Russian aggression. With that he has the power to starve much of the world if he feels any kind of move being made against him. It is well known that Ukraine is one of the top grain producers of the world and was once called the bread basket of the Soviet Union, something that Stalin exploited leading to the deaths of millions of Ukrainians.

Germany increases contested gas surcharge Austria, supported by countries like Poland, Hungary and Czechia, says the surcharge obstructs their move away from Russian gas as non-Russian gas imported through Western European LNG terminals becomes more costly due to the added German transit fee.
In the summer of 2022, when Russia stopped supplying gas to Germany, the government authorised large-scale purchases to ensure storage facilities were well-filled before winter. When gas prices dropped, market operator Trading Hub Europe (THE) levied a surcharge on gas flows to recoup the cost. As of July, the charge will be increased by another 34% to €2.50 per MWh, THE announced on Tuesday. The announcement comes amid a prolonged three-way stand-off between Vienna, Berlin and Brussels.

Russian ships are trying to gather intelligence on the location of essential cables and pipelines at the seabed of the North Sea in order to potentially sabotage or disrupt them. Russia uses fishing boats, cargo ships, oil tankers, research vessels and pleasure yachts to do so. Follow the Money and Belgian newspaper De Tijd have mapped all possible espionage, sabotage and other suspicious activities of Russian ships in the North Sea since 2014. There were 1,012 Russian-flagged ships active in the North Sea over the past decade; almost 60,000 times they hung around seemingly aimlessly; 950 times within 1 kilometre of cables or pipelines. 167 civilian Russian vessels were involved. European countries have few options to intervene even if suspicions of espionage are confirmed.

Ukraine handed over all their nuclear weapons to Russia between 1994 and 1996, as the result of the Budapest Convention, in exchange for a guarantee never to be threatened or invaded. The US and UK lied to Ukraine, too, because they all vowed to protect their territorial integrity. They let them take Crimea in 2014 and didn’t do a shit.
Some people are now wondering why Ukraine is rather reticent about possible ceasefire and peace talks with Russia. Even if the Russian proposals were not fundamentally poisonous, it would be a 100:1 bet that the agreement would be broken before the ink is dry. Russia will use a ceasefire only to resupply, restock their troops and then attack again.
Ukraine had this experience. A Minsk ceasefire in 2015 ended with unarmed Ukrainian soldiers getting massacred by Russian troops while trying to leave the area. They killed them all on the side of the road.
Ceasefire is only a strategic proposal to deceive their opponent: Russia will only stop when they simply can't fight anymore. Putin only understands one language: force.

Even when Ukraine has begun to strike deeper into Russian territory or utilise NATO weapons more audaciously, Ryan McBeth argues that we still shouldn't fear the Kremlins tough talk.
If the American policy is to provide safe havens for aggressors with nuclear weapons -- not protect the territorial integrity of its partners and allies, not uphold and safeguard international law -- where does that leave NATO members that border Russia? The current strategy makes nuclear non-proliferation, such as Ukraine giving up their stockpile, look like a shortsighted mistake.

Why Russia Won’t Use Nuclear Weapons Against Ukraine Unfortunately this article is merely about why Russia shouldn't use nuclear weapons there, but totalitarian dictatorships don't always use the western democracy logic.
The Third Nuclear Potential in the World. Why Ukraine Lost Its Nuclear Arsenal
Countries threatened with totalitarian regimes should keep their nuclear weapons as a deterrent. Izraeli knows about it in a hard way. But it's not only Russia who betrayed Ukraine in 1994, the USA and Great Britain failed here in the the same way for the lack of security assurance and Ukrainians should make them responsible for Crimea annexation and subsequent events. Their treaties aren't worth of penny and present security situation is the result of it.
Please tell Sergey Lavrov that if Russia gives up all its nuclear weapons, the US and the UK are willing to give Russia security guarantees against any future invasions by its neighbors.

Frankly, I don't envy the American voters: Given their election system, they're now predestined to elect Trump or Harris, nobody else. In similar way, like Russians who now have war casualties just because of their ignorance, if not open support of Putin regime.
Ukraine Had A Chance To Blow Up Russia’s Best Warplanes On The Tarmac. The White House Said No—And Now It’s Too Late.
Such a mistakes pay with lives of many Ukrainians. Now Kiev has partially undone it with its drone attack at Kursk airfield.
The True death toll of the Ukraine War
Before Russia invaded, Ukraine had about 300,000 personnel between its regular armed forces and paramilitary troops. The war has swelled Ukraine’s forces to about 2.2 million today, with an active duty force of 900,000. The rest are reserves and paramilitary forces and not all of them are deployed at once. Russia, meanwhile, began the invasion with 190,000 troops, but this was obviously not enough. By May 2023, after the partial mobilizations began, the number went up to 300,000, according to EU sources. By September, Russian forces in Ukraine had increased to 420,000, according to sources in Ukrainian intelligence.
By February 2023, PNAS’ estimate for Russian casualties was roughly 150,000 injuries and almost 70,000 fatalities. In August 2023, after the Russians had captured Bakhmut at an enormous cost American intelligence sources estimated that Russia had suffered 120,000 fatalities during the course of the war, with an additional 170,000 to 180,000 injured. By March 2024, the British Ministry of Defence claimed that Russia had suffered 355,000 total casualties in the two years’ war, amounting to about 983 per day. British officials predicted that Russia would suffer over 500,000 total casualties by the end of 2024. By August 2023, as the campaign in Zaporizhzhia raged, American sources estimated that Ukraine’s casualties ballooned to a number between 100,000 and 120,000 injuries and 70,000 dead. By December 2023, at least 20,000 of Ukraine’s wounded had required amputations, and, according to a Russian source over half of all the wounded Russian soldiers required amputation.

According to Wall Street Journal sources, Zelensky did give the order, but the then Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, disobeyed it.
Is it why Zaluzhnyi was replaced by Sirskiy in the middle of war? It could be still a Russian disinfo.
In May 2023, the BBC published information that a Russian ship Nymfen (SS-750), designed for submarine rescue operations, had been in the critical area for several days before the explosion and had been photographed by a Danish patrol boat. The SS-750 was sailing from Kaliningrad and was in the vicinity of Bornholm Island on 22 September 2022. Between June and September 2022, the Russian research vessel Sibiryakov, the tug SB-123 and another unidentified Russian military vessel were also in the area. The first ship spent hours over the site of the later explosion on 7 June 2022, where the pipeline lies at a depth of 80 metres. The Sibiryakov arrived at the same location on 14 June and remained until the next day. The tug stayed in the same area from 21 September until the second day, which is also confirmed by satellite imagery. Sibiryakov is believed to be capable of underwater and seabed operations, has an underwater robot and is designed for submarine rescue operations.
President Biden: "For example, if Russia crosses the border with Ukraine with tanks and troops, Nord Stream 2 will no longer exist". Follow-up question: "But how exactly do you do that? The project is under German control". President Biden: "I promise you: we will do it."
So that at the end we just know another version of the same story. See also:

Ukraine began to use the Scythian tactics: Russian expert explained what awaits Russia now
According to one version, the Scythians are considered the ancestors of the Ukrainians. These steppe tribes were famous for their high level of combat capability and defeated even Alexander the Great, who was considered an invincible commander. The entry of the Ukrainian Armed Forces into the Kursk region and rapid advancement deep into Russia is precisely the signature Scythian style, wrote a Russian opposition political strategist in a column for the publication Pointmedia. Today, Ukrainians are doing the same thing that the Scythians demonstrated two and a half thousand years ago in the war with the Persians who invaded the territory of the Northern Black Sea region. The sudden raids on the rear not only unpleasantly surprised the Persian army of Darius, but also exhausted it to such an extent that it had to leave the lands of the Scythians. Now the Ukrainian Armed Forces are demonstrating a model of warfare that awaits the Russian Federation in the foreseeable future, Gallyamov believes. The Russians will attack the Ukrainians head-on with all their might, and the Ukrainians, in turn, will hit them here and there, suddenly appearing in the most unexpected places. In such conditions, a war of conquest immediately loses its popularity. People begin to think that since our army does not know how to fight, it was necessary not to even start. Like, Yerema-Yerema, you should have stayed at home, so it will become even more difficult for Putin to recruit contract soldiers for the war, the oppositionist predicted. Gallyamov also emphasized that Ukraine has regained the initiative not only in the military, but also in the political sense of the word, demonstrating the victory of intelligence over brute force. Let us recall that Abbas Gallyamov ridiculed the Kremlin's actions against the backdrop of events in the Kursk region: "Now the Russian authorities will cause much more negativity in society."
Jason Smart, in Ukraine, conducted this interview with General Ben Hodges, in Germany, on August 21, 2024.
General Ben Hodges, who commanded the US Army in Europe from 2014 until 2017, says that Western policymakers need to open their eyes to a hard truth: Russia is only emboldened by the empty phrases we use to describe support for Ukraine, as we are unwilling to say that "we will do all that we can for Ukraine to win." Looking ahead, the General suggests that the West does not give Ukraine nearly enough credit for its many successes and ingenuity, something that prevents many Westerners from realizing how well Ukraine is really doing.
During this interview, General Hodges references an initiative of the Renewal Democracy Initiative (RDI), on which he sits on the Board, which is chaired by Garry Kasparov, that is calling on Chancellor Sholz of Germany to send weapons to Ukraine: https://rdi.org/articles/garry-kaspar... To support this initiative, Kasparov's organization has started a petition calling on Scholz to assist Ukraine. The petition can be found here: https://www.deutsche-verantwortung.de
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urges his allies. "Warfare knows no holidays," he says, urging NATO countries to hurry up with promised arms deliveries. They are stalling. The pledges made last month are now being reneged on, according to Zelensky, especially by the US, Britain and France. The delay in arms deliveries, and especially the reluctance to provide Kiev with any, may be a key reason why the Ukrainian army made an unexpected incursion into Russia's Kursk region in early August. Zelensky himself says that if NATO countries had dropped their "red lines" and provided Kiev with, say, long-range surface-to-surface missiles, the risky "Kursk operation" might not have taken place at all. But now Ukraine is said to have no choice but to attack Russian strategic targets located deeper inland, such as bridges or airfields, rather than taking them by storm with just a risky infantry assault.
Berlin, however, seems to be heading in the opposite direction. It intends to gradually reduce its aid to Kiev. At least according to a weekend report in the German press. Germany is said to be planning to reduce aid to Ukraine from eight billion euros this year to four billion euros next year and to give even less in 2026. Furthermore Berlin is refusing to provide Kiev, for example, with its Taurus cruise missiles, i.e. cruise missiles with short and long range. These are extremely effective. They have a range of up to 500 kilometers and can pass through a six-metre concrete wall. They can also operate in ground-to-ground mode.
But even if Hungary could be persuaded to support it, it is necessary for Russian reserves to remain frozen for 10 to 20 years. Because that is how long the proceeds of the reserves will have to be used to repay the 50 billion loan that the EU would take out to help Ukraine. But a freeze for 10 to 20 years effectively means the confiscation of Russian reserves, albeit somehow unacknowledged. Yet the Germans opposed the - admitted - confiscation in the spring when it was proposed by the United States. Germany is thus displaying a schizophrenic attitude: it is invoking as a way out a solution that it itself rejects. This schizophrenic and indecisive attitude is not one of those which, at moments in history, would side with the victors...

Ukrainian Forces halt Russian advance, stabilize Pokrovsk front versus Putin says Russia ready for talks with Kyiv
Russia understands only power so that Russia's stance to negotiations is the most reliable indicator of its perception of its war progress.
Russian hawk pushes case for Putin to toughen policy on nuclear weapons. Sergei Karaganov told Kommersant newspaper in an interview that Moscow could launch a limited nuclear strike on a NATO country without triggering all-out nuclear war. "The assertion that any limited use of nuclear weapons will necessarily lead to a general nuclear Armageddon does not stand up to criticism," he said.
The Ukrainian incursion of Kursk region did show Western countries that Russia actually has no red lines for usage of nuclear weapons. This incursion thus actually made many Western countries annoyed, because they vindicated their withholding of Ukraine military help just by these alleged red lines and fear of Russia retaliation. The classical diplomatic doctrine of Russia is, that when it denies something, then it already thinks of it.
Denying Russia' only strategy for success Russia cannot defeat Ukraine or the West - and will likely lose - if the West mobilizes its resources to resist the Kremlin. The West’s existing and latent capability dwarfs that of Russia. The combined gross domestic product (GDP) of NATO countries, non-NATO European Union states, and our Asian allies is over $63 trillion.[1] The Russian GDP is on the close order of $1.9 trillion.[2] Iran and North Korea add little in terms of materiel support. China is enabling Russia, but it is not mobilized on behalf of Russia and is unlikely to do so.[3] If we lean in and surge, Russia loses.

The usually well-informed French daily Le Monde, citing a source close to Macron, wrote that the differences of opinion concern inviting Ukraine into NATO and allowing Kiev to use long-range missiles on targets deep in the Russian interior.
Germany does not want Ukraine's invitation to NATO. France and the UK, on the other hand, are willing to support it. For the United States, everything depends on the outcome of the November presidential elections. "If Kamala Harris wins, Joe Biden is ready to start the process of admitting Ukraine, he no longer has any major objections to it," the daily Le Monde reported, citing its diplomatic source.
If Donald Trump wins, his administration is unlikely to agree to keep Ukraine in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Trump's vice-presidential nominee, J.D. Vance, has said that in order to reach a ceasefire and peace deal, Ukraine should stay out of NATO. The governments of Slovakia and Hungary are also openly opposed to Ukraine's membership in the alliance.
The four major countries also disagree on allowing Ukrainian strikes deep inside Russia. Britain and France are in favour, the United States and Germany against. "No one will make any major decision before the US election. But one thing they all agree on: even the deployment of long-range missiles on Russian territory would not fundamentally change the course of the war," writes Le Mond.
Any tolerance of Russian annexation of Ukraine will have similar consequences, like the Western tolerance of annexation of Alsase-Loraine by Germany before WWW II. It will not delay the world war, it will make it more imminent. Both Crimea and Luhansk are areas of vast oil and gas deposits and rare earth metals, which will enable Russia to escalate its military industry.

The Poles believe that when it comes to Ukraine, their country, as its neighbor and great ally, should be there: "If you are not sitting in a chair at the table, it means you are part of the menu," commented Polish political scientist and deputy director of the Warsaw-based Center for Eastern Studies Jakub Jakobowski.
This is just one of many others apparent "mistakes", which Western Europe does. The anti-Russian coalition must be homogeneous or it will serve Russian interests.
Zelenskyy: We Gave Away Our Nuclear Weapons and Got Full-Scale War and Death in Return ""My position is very clear. We gave away our weapons but got nothing in return. Only a full-scale war and death. Therefore, today we have only one way out. We need NATO because we don't have weapons that can stop Putin," Zelenskyy said.
Not only Ukraine but there are rumors that Japan and South Korea are looking to add a nuclear arsenal. Who can blame them, the assurances given when they gave those weapons up so far have not been honored, they’re struggling to survive?
This is what happens when security “assurances” turn out to be worthless. The only conclusion a rational nation can draw from this war is that not having nuclear weapons is a mortal danger. The slippery slope here is in 100 years we are going to see companies that are larger than nuclear nations also getting nukes.

Tulsi Gabbard’s Ties to Russia Are Far More Dangerous Than You Realize, Experts Say.
Her endorsement of Russian aggression wasn’t limited to Syria. When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Gabbard once again echoed Kremlin talking points, even suggesting that NATO’s policies were to blame for Russia’s invasion. She lent credibility to the baseless Russian narrative about U.S.-funded biolabs in Ukraine — a lie straight from the Kremlin playbook. Her views are so extreme and disconnected from reality that her appointment as DNI could destabilize American intelligence operations globally. And Russian state media lavished praise on her, calling her a “superwoman.”

The Wall Street Journal reported that President-elect Donald Trump’s team has drafted a proposal to end the ongoing war in Ukraine war on Thursday. Allegedly the plan includes significant conditions: Ukraine should give up its NATO membership aspirations for at least 20 years, the freezing of the current front lines and the establishment of a demilitarized zone between Russian-held territory and Ukraine. The plan is said to exclude the possibility of US troops or UN contingents to monitor and enforce any ceasefire, instead suggesting that Kyiv’s European allies - such as Poland, Germany, Britain, and France – should take on the responsibility.
It would mean that Russia will finally gain the access to oil fields around Crimea, gas fields in Luhansk, lithium reserves in Kherson and so on. The Ukraine boasts approximately 20,000 mineral deposits, covering 116 types of minerals. Key resources include titanium, lithium, beryllium, manganese, gallium, uranium, zirconium, graphite, apatite, fluorite, and nickel. Notably, Ukraine holds the largest titanium reserves in Europe, accounting for 7 percent of the world’s reserves, as well as almost 500,000 tons of lithium. And of course Russia will also access coal and fertile soil reserves in Donbass. Ukraine will shrink into economically insignificant rural state fully dependent on European support and it will become a shadow satellite of Russia again.

An analysis finds that congressionally approved funds to support Ukraine this year amount to about 5.6 percent of U.S. defense spending. While President Biden and his administration have announced substantial funding for 2024, it has been reported that only 10% of the allocated aid has actually reached Ukraine. Which means, if the West would uphold its promises including long range weapons, then Ukraine would already regain its territories back. Instead of it, USA gave up Ukraine for just 0.56% of its yearly military funding, which mostly consisted of old stockpiled weapons and material, which would be otherwise scrapped or renewed in this way or another one.

Trump, Rente, Jobs: Wie Friedrich Merz das Land regieren würde
Germans will probably go to early elections on 23 February and it is almost certain that the Christian Democrats (CDU) will emerge as the winners. And their boss Friedrich Merz accuses the current Social Democratic Chancellor Olaf Scholz of, among other things, being too afraid of an escalation of the war in Ukraine. Scholz did not and does not want to supply the Ukrainians with the extremely effective and devastating Taurus long-range missiles, capable of hitting targets up to 500 kilometres away, deep in Russian territory. Merz says that if he becomes Chancellor, he will do it. And he'll send in F-16s.
"The Ukrainian government has the right to give Russia an ultimatum: either the attacks on civilian targets will end within 24 hours, or there will be restrictions on the deployment of weapons. And we will deploy the Taurus missiles within a week," Merz told Stern magazine. He also said several times that "Ukraine must win this war." See also:

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died. This was stated today by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the social network X. He added that in 370 thousand cases injured Ukrainian soldiers needed treatment. He noted that this figure also includes minor and repeated injuries of soldiers. About half of the injured Ukrainian soldiers later return to duty, he said.
Zelensky also said that Russian losses amount to about 198,000 soldiers killed and more than 550,000 wounded. "One of the key differences between the Russian army and the Ukrainian armed forces is the level of front-line medicine, which is significantly higher here," he added.

According to Western intelligence estimates, the total Russian war casualties amount to 610,000 people, including 200,000 dead and 400,000 wounded. The Pentagon gives similar figures: 615,000 casualties, including 115,000 dead. In contrast, Ukraine's losses, according to Western sources, range between 60 and 100 thousand dead and about 400 thousand wounded. The accuracy of these figures is difficult to verify, however, because some soldiers who may be listed as missing in action or presumed dead are not always reflected in official statistics.
In the first ten months of this year, twice as many Ukrainian soldiers deserted than in the previous two years of the war combined. Ukrainian prosecutors opened 60,000 criminal cases against soldiers for desertion between January and October this year, the Finacial Times reported. If proven guilty, the men face up to 12 years in prison. Also, Reuters reported that a total of nearly 95,000 criminal cases have been opened against soldiers for "arbitrary abandonment" of a unit and for the more serious offence of desertion from the battlefield since February 2022. There are an estimated 650,000 "combat-ready" Ukrainians widespread in the EU.
Ukraine's economy is outperforming the Russian economy in several key respects for the first time since the onset of the full-scale invasion in 2022, although it is still a quarter smaller than it was in 2021.

U.S. president-elect Donald Trump does not intend to stop military aid to Ukraine, according to the Financial Times. Trump believes that supplying Kyiv with weapons after a ceasefire will ensure “peace through strength.”
Currently, the Alliance countries are required to allocate 2% of GDP per year for defense, but the president-elect wants to increase this figure to 5%. Notably, only 23 out of 32 NATO members allocate 2% of GDP to defense. With compare to it
