We take cheesy SF shows for granted but if you take a step back they really are a wonder. Our ability to accept such pure drivel while being barely entertained. Which is exactly what the first clip is parodying.

William Shatner did an amazing job in this role. In fact it's a good indicator of what a great actor he truly is.
