If the mod is absent, and there's no conflict/contraversy then it's not a problem.

Solution: Do nothing.

I run a sub on reddit that's more than 6 years old. It's exceptionally inactive but most of us check back in once every blue moon and appreciate that it's still there. It's still bizarre to me when things on the internet go away. But I guess I'm an old man.

Right, but the OP here seems to want to make the abandoned sub into something....active. Is the creation of an alternative sub actually necessary simply because the creator is AWOL?

Not so much the case, it's more I had a question about if a certain content belonged there and wanted to clarify with the mods.

Just post it there, if no one is moderating who is going to care?
