Don't let this place go the way of VOAT

If anyone is familiar with what happened to VOAT - it became a hive of racism and bigotry. I personally believe this a somewhat intentional move to discredit and push away an genuine alternative to reddit which moved away from a community led project to a corporate owned product.

I'd love to see a new community run reddit - but you have to be prepared that Conde Nast isn't going to sit idle and let it happen. The subversion is real and if you want this community to entice redditors to move over - it's going to require people to do their part.

This site used to be called antiextremes.com way back in the day.

This named referring to the two extremes of reddit and voat. Our mission goal is to avoid becoming either of those sites, but instead provide a place for all viewpoints with reasonable discussion.

The best way to avoid becoming reddit is to limit censorship, even in subsaidits.

It's fine to lock comments or posts, but nothing should ever be deleted, or just wiped out as if it were never there. Disabling links from a post is obviously limiting harm, but the words never should be erased. No one should be erased. No thoughts are so dangerous that they need to be hidden.

Anything illegal in USA is fair game for moderation or removal for sure. Beyond that, mag has some highfalutin ideals which everyone is supposed to strive for.

I don't think it's intentional. I think that people that get silenced/banned from those platforms will naturally gravitate towards the new ones and thus they become filled with the people that were cast out.

I don't know much about voat but I know reddit is shithole echo chamber of farts.

Let's let it not become like reddit, which was its original intention. Amen.

From my perspective "Doing your part" would mainly consist of reporting activity that violates the policies of Saidit, and refusing to participate in obvious bait topics and threads.
