Does saidit have no mechanism for changing moderators?

Reddit has a reddit request system, and implementing something similar should be done here before it becomes a noted problem.

While I see your concern, a system like this is a problem in itself. If the problem on reddit is abusive moderators (which I agree with), why would we want more active moderators, and replicate their failed system?

Well reddit subs without active moderation typically turn into low quality fluff. Compare /r/worldpolitics to /r/neutralpolitics. 0 moderation vs heavy moderation. But they mostly have the heavy moderation done right. Whereas other subs like /r/science and /r/askscience have heavy moderation done wrong.

Lol worldpolitics doens't have 0 moderation, it's very heavily moderated to create a certain bias. Neutralpolitics is good, but it all depends on the mod you get. It's very easy for subs like that to become biased echo-chambers with the wrong mod

You must be thinking of another sub. https://old.reddit.com/r/worldpolitics/ turned into a meme sub due to lack of moderation. People complained about it for years then finally gave up and left.

I agree, which is why moderation is an important topic that needs to be fixed for any reddit alternative to succeed https://old.reddit.com/r/RedditAlternatives/comments/ay0bc3/what_is_one_feature_you_expect_every_reddit/ehy9aka/. So far I think saidit has a way to go before solving all the problems with reddit.

For example, the problem of "random people who got there first" controlling subs isn't a solved problem here.

Tildes is doing some nice things, but the lack of ability to create a community like /r/fecaltransplant or /r/FMTClinics for example, means they're not a valid replacement in my case.

If you don't want moderators to do anything then just get rid of moderators.

That's also too extreme in the other direction, I can't moderate the whole site myself

So there is something that moderators are supposed to do, but it's OK if some of them don't do it? Not even because the community wants an inactive moderator, but just because they took the namespace when the website was released, and got a bunch of default subscribers and people who were just looking for a copy of their old subreddit. And there is nothing to stop abusive moderation either.

So you're accepting both extremes because it's easier?

You can make /s/SaiditRequest but base it on user discussions. Then review the arguments and make a change if there is some kind of consensus.

No we're taking a moderate position because it's worked out so far.

I am not making saiditRequest. That system was horribly abused and many subs were stolen by bad people using that system, I had it happen to me on reddit.

there are also people (like me) who want to request anysub and everyreddit to make their list of moderated subs grow ridiculously. its one of the reasons why Powermods are a thing, redditrequest enables them

Exactly. We want to avoid the whole powermod situation. It's another reason we have a 2-week waiting period between registering subs.
