We're bound by CPAL I think. Changing licenses is way beyond me, but I'm leaning towards it can't be changed. https://github.com/reddit-archive/reddit/blob/master/LICENSE

Also, can we set New as the front page instead?

New is a sort, not a sub. But yes, we could add a default sort preference, that'd be really cool. So if you set new, every sub you went to, you'd be on the new tab.
