Was there a sudden influx of registrations today?

[–]magnora7[S] 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Yes, a big influx today. Mostly because reddit is going nutso today censoring the NZ shooting video and manifesto, so people are starting to migrate to reddit alternatives.

There's been 610 comments posted to saidit in the last 48 hours, a new record for the site

Hi, I'm new. Great site but I have a small problem.

On the site where the chat is, it says " You are not connected to the IRC network, unable to send your command".

How do I fix it?

Hi, this bug happens occasionally. You may try refreshing the page a few times. If that does not work, then open the hamburger menu (the 3 horizontal lines) in the top-left of the chat app. Click the "saidit" server tab at the top. Type /connect in to the chat. The server will then reconnect. Then you can switch back to the #home channel and it should work. Let me know if you run in to any more problems.

Yeah, I figured it out. Apparently, I just had to write "/connect".

Cool, good deal.

Good to know. Maybe worth promoting in the chat documentation or something.

Does the IRC chat expose IP addresses?

[–]magnora7[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No, it does not expose any user IP addresses to the best of my knowledge. It just shows the host connecting data. Here is an example for a random current chat user named YangGang, to give you an idea:

(YangGang@Clk-127B7847)

This is all the connection info that is available to others. No IP addresses are shown

I'd be happy to make a hamburger icon that looks almost the same but with a touch of colour, maybe round the top corners a bit, like a burger.
