Congrats on all this.

I don't understand the last bit about the thumbnails. What is a "selfpost" and wiki you mean like Wikipedia, Infogalactic, etc or do you mean the SaidIt wiki? I thought it was already doing that, (though often with random results - ie. Truther Top 20 Movies had an image that was far down on the list).

This might be too late to help you, but I recently added an image downloader to my Brave Browser. Sometimes there are background images that you can't normally right-click save. These image downloaders dig out those images with a manager too. I'm guessing some might be open source if you wanted to borrow features.

I don't know if this is related or completely different, but it'd be neat to be able to use SVGs and GIFs for the CSS. Animated banners, buttons, etc. It could get keyrazie!

A self-post is a text post. Basically, the thumbnail will be taken from wiki links in non-link posts if those posts contain a link.

Thanks.

Full gif support is on our list. Maybe we'll support svg too but that's harder because they can have embedded javascript that needs to be stripped/sanitized. Svg isn't supported in a lot of systems because of this.

Bummer. .AI files are for Adobe Illustrator. .SVG are much simpler and I'd figured pretty basic. They rarely load properly in Illustrator. I'm bummed they can get loaded with crap. I wonder how Wikimedia Commons handles it. To find the answer to that, maybe watch this space for a week or so... https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump#SVG_and_embedded_javascript_stripping

That is helpful, having a good example. Thanks man.

You might find a lot more good examples in the the open source Wikimedia family, and if you seek decentralized ideas Everipedia is also open source.
