But do you use https://saidit.net/s/all/new/ ? I mean that's the place where they are annoying, their posts rarely reach front page / /s/all.

Yes, I use all, I hit hide button on the spam.

This doesn’t give them points for the upvote to hide. And I upvote every post I like.

The cure for spam is to go to all and upvote good content. Also text links of good content to people you know. Links to the saidit post, not directly to the content.

Site is essentially abandoned tbh

See also this: https://saidit.net/s/conspiracy/comments/ahuc/magnora7s_post_in_rconspiracy_people_are_so/11gr4 , apparently magnora7 watches silently, but doesn't participate :)

Maybe admins should noindex everything under 10 upvotes to prevent SEO spammers at least who just want links to be somewhere on this website.

We have content admins .... somewhere. They probably haven't been on recently. But the only guy who can really change anything is u/magnora7 and he's not often here. I think he just needs to appoint a new content admin. Personally I'd recommend u/Jet199, she's the site's most popular user and she "death scrolls" saidit. Sounds perfect for getting rid of spam.

Getting rid of everything under 10 votes just means they'll vote 11 times. There's no way to fix this, that's kind of the whole problem.

I didn't mean removing posts, I just meant adding "noindex"/"nofollow" tag to links which have under 5-10 upvotes to make SEO spam pointless (those spammers just want active links somewhere on website for search engines to rank their domains better, they don't even need for people to click on them).

Sorry man, I've been away from Saidit for the past few weeks because of a life shitstorm, but hoping to be back on patrol at least some mornings each week

[–]William_World 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

that's good and bad

[–]1Icemonkey 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It’s tiresome.

I had some simple ideas about managing the spam.
By using a "trusted" page where you share block-lists with "friends".
And a "recommended" page where you get the posts that are upvoted or posted by "friends".

[–]Drewski 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

That's a good idea, but I think there should be multiple categories / tags for the block lists. I also block trolls, and users who always spam racial slurs and don't contribute to the conversation. I don't block sux and the other shills who push establishment propaganda, because I believe bad ideas are best countered with good ones. Some people may disagree with my approach, so I think some granularity in blocking would be useful.

Would it be possible to have it so that if a post has more than let's say 2 reports for spam, the post will be auto hidden? If we want to get really fancy, it could count the number of reported spam posts by a user and kill the user's account after some arbitrary number of violations. Appeal process to keep from having the feature abused could consist of an admin setting the account to not be affected by the auto spam bot if so flagged.

[–]Musky 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

That's easy to do with automod, but when I was moderating a bunch of subs, it never got triggered because nothing got two reports. Also it's really easy to abuse, someone -- and I'm thinking Socks here -- could use his alts to remove whatever they wanted.

I think the problem could be solved simply by giving admin powers to someone on here all the time, and I don't mean me.

F'n Socks, ruining it for everyone...

[–]Vulptex 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

No one is on here ALL the time.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

There are already sub settings to do this.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It IS out of control, but Magnora7 has abandoned the site except for maybe checking in once a month to remove my best posts, and I think Vulptex and Zapped are the only active admins, leaving a lot of time when nobody is on to remove spam. I think this site is probably in its death throes

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Saidit always had a lot of spam for some reason. It's nothing new.

[–]Vulptex 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Blocking them won't help most of the time. They always make new accounts.

[–]neolib[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It helps me to look through https://saidit.net/s/all/new/ for content, as I said I only block those who post many links at once, or 1 link at a time for months. Anyway, how to define spam exactly is debatable, for example I consider one-domain-submitters like Sunshine43 borderline spam as well.

Hello my friend. We are all very interested in the future, because that is where we will spend the rest of our lives. That's why you should call lord Xerox from the crab nebulon and ask him about the wonderful opportunity awaiting you with 4th dimensional non-linear timeshares. Call now at 卍卍卍四四四六六六

You could surfing the liquid lead oceans if Venus or sipping a frozen methane molecule cocktail on Titan. Future events such as these can happen to you in the future. Don't wait. Engage your ambulatory appendage now!

You sound very professional and trustworthy, I am interested in acquiring your services, but I can't find the swastika button on my phone, or the Japanese 4 and 6. Perhaps I can just give you my credit card number and SSN?

You'll need to ditch the landline and get a space phone.
