I'd also say this - making moral judgements about humor content, and then attempting to suppress it for violations of your code is exactly what Reddit does. See the migration of s/TumblrInAction. Frankly this seems awfully hypocritical of a judgement for someone who claims to support free speech and internet. Have you ever seen South Park or Dave Chappelle, the best comedy always offends someone

There’s so many people begging to censor said it.

It’s so hard to believe this is a refuge from Reddit.

There’s a block button. Instead of been by a whiny bitch, they can just use the block button.

[–]LordoftheFlies 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (26 children)

Yeah, but a block is a quiet thing. A big-ass protest post gets attention, and that's the goal.

[–]Questionable 6 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 4 fun -  (16 children)

We can't down vote it off the front page.

If we block him, he will continue to destroy the front page whether we can see it or not. Degrading the site as a whole.

Is it censorship to insist someone posts adult content to appropriate subs?

u/HongKongPhooey simply has no self control, and sees no reason to use any judgment or discretion what so ever.

Yes it is.

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

And is it bad?

[–]hfxB0oyA 6 insightful - 3 fun6 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 3 fun -  (6 children)

In my opinion, yes. If people want to filter content to "appropriate" subs, there's Reddit. The price of our chaotic freedom is eternal vigilance from becoming a buttoned-down site like Reddit, ever tightening the definition of what's appropriate until all expression is strangled.

[–]Alphix 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Any place with unrestricted free speech is a place that is quickly being subverted by enemy agents. UNLESS the participants are extremely educated on the ills of subversion.

[–]hfxB0oyA 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Well then, I guess the onus is upon each of us to educate ourselves.

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, but how thoroughly can you count on >95% of the userbase of any site to fully educate themselves on this topic?

[–]Musky 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Well said.

[–]LordoftheFlies 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Okay, but unless there's some secret "Content that I don't want to see" sub that he should be using to avoid offending your (in the general sense, not you specifically) sensibilities, then as far as I can tell, he is posting his stuff to the appropriate subs. And unless he further has a serious level of behind-the-curtain site access, his stuff showing up on the front page is no doing of his.

[–]Questionable 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (5 children)

He doesn't need to post shit here at all. Does he NEED up votes for some reason? You want to read the dailymail? It's a major site. Just bookmark it, go there and rub the feces in your eye sockets.

[–]hfxB0oyA 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

The block button exists, dude.

[–]Questionable 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yes, it exists. And so does 4chan. I go there for shitty content, and not here. And I don't want this site to become 4chan. So if I use the block button, he will continue to bring down the quality of this site. Only it will be happening out of site, and out of mind.

You are literally exalting the virtues of ignorance, dud.

[–]hfxB0oyA 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well, my suggestion is to drown him out by presenting better options.

[–]Alphix 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

The guy posts some worthwhile thigns, though.

[–]hfxB0oyA 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

True enough. As the saying goes, you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince. ;)

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (7 children)

Right. Their jealous of HongKongs popularity. Like sorry Larry you can’t think of a cool name. And you don’t post cool stuff.

[–]monkeymagic 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

that’s a bit of a stretch. i fully support dude’s right to shitpost, but his content is trash and sane people find him annoying AF

[–]Alienhunter 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Cool then ignore it like a sane person does when they see clickbait.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly.

[–]LordoftheFlies 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Like sorry Larry you can’t think of a cool name.

I'm low-key proud of my name.

When I'm feeling all high-brow and whatnot, I can claim it's a subtle comment on the uncivilized nature of the people featured in the stuff I most frequently comment on, that they're exactly like children gone feral in the absence of a society capable of keeping them in check.

When I'm being honest about it though, it's just referencing my love of shitposting :D.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I thought your name was cool too.

[–]Bonn1770 1 insightful - 4 fun1 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

THEIR jealous? What about MY jealous?

[–]iamonlyoneman 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

When a big ass-protest gets started by someone retarded, be sure to mock them and call them ugly names so they will feel bad

[–]Alphix 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

SOME of his posts are actually insightful.

[–]Drewski 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

He's not calling for censorship, just saying that your spam posts are getting old. People have mentioned the block button but I think the difference is you actually post good stuff, instead of the trolls who it's easy to block without missing out on anything.

[–][deleted] 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I don't like a bunch of shit people post, usually stuff about Jews, "niggers" or some other kind of identity-based hate manifesto, which I think is far more distasteful than anything I post. Yet I'm not starting Reddit style brigades about it like u/LarrySwinger2 , calling people out by name and trying to start a lynch mob because I think it's trashy and stupid, even though I'd have to block most of the site to avoid seeing it.

Some people clearly are enjoying having me post news that is just meant to laugh at rather than being serious, and I don't see anyone else being asked to self-censor to avoid offending people on this site, so I'm not quite sure why it is I should consider censoring myself when a few people don't appreciate some of my posts. I don't think the rest of Saidit would do the same for me.

I honestly like both you and Larry, and don't feel good about it bothering you guys this much, but I also feel like its pretty unfair and unreasonable of you guys are to ask me to self-censor and meet some standard other users are not being held to. Especially on a free-speech oriented site brimming with hate speech when I am just posting (admittedly low-brow) humor from newszines

[–]Zapped 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Because people want you to be above what they feel some of your posts amount to. You don't hear many complaints about the hate speech because they don't think those users are capable of better. There is a lot of paranoia about regular users here because of the shills and forum sliding attempts. I admit that I try to connect the dots, too.

Agreed.
But we also know you can do better.
I don't think they are capable of better. You can lead by better example.
Don't censor yourself.
Moderate yourself better.

This was never a free-speech site. Ask M7D3.
It has always been for free-thinking and truth-seeking.
