Looks well made and high quality, but I got used to the old insightful and funny icons, so maybe there's that bit of a bias because I like them more.

I like it a lot, but SaidIt is not a happy place.

LazerFalkor, saiditter for 1 day, you might like to see the origins of the current logo(s) 4 years ago: https://infogalactic.com/info/SaidIt_branding_gallery

Getting anything done around here is near impossible as the owner is rarely here and doesn't care about improving the place.

I recently discovered SaidIt and was excited to find a platform that reminds me of the old Reddit. It's refreshing to have a space that doesn't censor content or impose strict rules on posting. Although the atmosphere may not be perfect at the moment, I'm eager to contribute and help the community in any way I can. It would be great to have an environment that resembles the thoughtful, nuanced discussions that were common on Reddit between 2009-2013 ish. During that time, individuals from all political backgrounds engaged in constructive conversations that avoided the echo chamber effect that plagues many platforms today.

Although the atmosphere may not be perfect at the moment

It has been better. And in the early days there was optimism and hope for better things. The owner refuses to let this community self-manage and thus there's no ownership stakes for the users to keep it great or bother doing anything other than leach off the "free" service. At present it's still the best option I'm aware off. I've tried to facilitate alt options and find competent and trustworthy I.T. folks to start decentralized Lemmy (Reddit-like), Movim (Facebook/Messenger-like), PeerTube, etc. instances for our communities to migrate to before, during, and/or after times of crisis - or when this mostly 2013 software (last Reddit open-source release) no longer works. But none have stepped up.

Come on bro. Lighten up.

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Why?

[–]BISH 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Because, letting your anger and disillusionment affect someone else's enthusiasm is bad form.

Maybe the new guy will affect change, because there's no history of conflict. Why sabotage that?

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

There's no hope of affecting change here.

Wasting hope and energy is bad form.

Regardless, we're PMing productively.

[–]BISH 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

The ship is still floating, while most competitors have sunk.

Not all change is positive.

Not all stagnancy is healthy.

Impressive work

You too can help make Saidit a happy place

[–]JasonCarswell 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

I'd be happier if shills left SaidIt alone, socks.

[–]dicknipples 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Exactly what a shill would say.

Saidit's motto: "say your truth"

That's not: "keep others from saying their truth", is it?

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

* liar shills

The motto is not "say your bullshit".

[–]dicknipples 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

The motto is not "say your bullshit".

As this applies to you, that means you'll leave Saidit? You've tried desperately to promote alternative websites.

The motto is not, "say your truth [unless Carsmell disagrees with you]"

These are good but maybe have the self post mascot be speaking something like this? https://www.shareicon.net/data/2016/07/24/801228_chat_512x512.png

Done, I love the idea of a speech bubble having it's own speech bubble: https://i.imgur.com/4yvlCBQ.jpg

Seems nice. I suppose /u/magnora7 needs to know about this. I'm glad you found the site, there's usually good stuffs in the front page and I tend to post cool things the whole time.

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Maybe he can do something about this too...
/u/magnora7, It's beyond fucking time to update the default sub lists.
/s/SaidIt/comments/ad8w/umagnora7_its_beyond_fucking_time_to_update_the/

He prefers stagnation to growth.

[–]Canbot 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

There is something very familiar about the speech bubble with a face inside.

[–]package 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

You're a graphic designer and the best you can come up with is repurposed emojis along with an all caps heavy display font that doesn't in any way match the weight of the graphic?

[–]BISH 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Looks like a ghost.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It’s nice. But I wish we had a downvote.

no

[–]Questionable 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (11 children)

I don't trust people who wish to homogenize iconography.

Why?
Consistency has its place, especially in branding.

This is VOAT:

This is PEPSI:

This is Walmart:

I don't know where any of that symbolism comes from. But there was no reason for change. Especially not one that makes it look "phone friendly". Box buildings, box products, box people.

Consistency has its place, especially in branding.

Internal consistency, doesn't equate to looking like everyone else. This site already has a consistent look. Branding is only as important as your actual value. Need an example?

I still don't know what you're getting at. I understand branding.

The new guy's design is very nice, clever, clean, clear, and effective. It could use a few tweaks. It doesn't capture the mood/spirit/etc. of SaidIt, however you may interpret it, and it's so generic it's virtually lifeless, though still excellent.

I don't think it's better than mine, which I made after being on SaidIt a few months in collaborative consultation with magnora7 and d3rr, and by fluke discovered when finishing it that it's ratio was precisely 7x3 - coincidentally tied to M7D3. Not only does my design respect and tributes magnora7's old font choice (used for a year or so, and still haunts SaidIt in icons, favicons, etc.) but it includes the name of the place so folks can find it with ".net" in an enthusiastic exclamation point. None of it was by accident. Plus I like ovoids. That's where all SaidIt's symbolism comes from.

Funny. Very different though.

FYI, I prefer his newer one:

In addition, Saidit is one marketable word, not two common words. Yes. I am suspicious of a new user showing up with the intent to help.

I am suspicious of a new user showing up with the intent to help.

Justifiably.

Notably there was no self-pimping, no site, no portfolio, no resume, no references, no grift.

Would be a neat trick if you could somehow subvert a site with good design.

[–]Questionable 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

Would be a neat trick if you could somehow subvert a site with good design.

Actually you can subvert an entire society with both good and bad designs. It's how you program people. There's a prime example of this in a little site you may have heard of. it's called reddit. See all those red flags you posted? Who taught you that those were red flags?

And what if the danger is in the terms of services from the download site?

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I said one design, not ubiquitous branding and consumer culture.

In the 90s and 2000s I worked on more TV spots and music videos than I can count.

[–]hfxB0oyA 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Nice job. Certainly a refreshing look to the dated Star Trek looking font.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

It's based on the old old font that M7 liked.

[–]hfxB0oyA 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

No offense man. 👍

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

None taken. My current version is an improvement on the old one. https://infogalactic.com/info/SaidIt_branding_gallery Wish I'd thought of doing what the new guy did.
