Having a gatekeeper means that the owners of saidit.net control the entire network, even if it has multiple hosts. Each host should be identical and equivalently able to act as the authenticator (obviously with different accounts!) and gatekeeper.

I understand that and other stuff. Are we agreeing or debating, were we ever debating, or just discussing details from different directions leading to the same point quibbling over semantics, at least until we reached the limit of my awareness on how it works?

And I still don't understand - are you in favour of the SaidIt admins controlling the entire network, even it has multiple hosts? Would you call that decentralized? Or would it be more precise to call it decentralized hosting with centralized governance?, for a cheeky lack of a better term.

Or are you saying alternative to that last paragraph's model a new model for SaidIt might be implemented where all hosts are equal and act as moderators, equally.

Wherein, do I have this right?...

All hosts would host their accounts and co-host the content and share the content - but don't share the accounts, rather allow accounts of them and others in the Fediverse to interact across all the various co-hosted servers.

So when a bad apple rears its head, who is responsible for dealing with it?

Also if one host goes down do all of it's accounts (list of users) go down too?

All hosts are equal ≠ all users are hosts. When a bad user appears, the owning host deals with it. When a bad host appears, everybody just ignores it.

How do you consume info on this? Sometimes articles are good, sometimes YouTube is better. Reddit documentation for example is utter shit, but watching one YouTube video answered all the questions I STILL had after hours of searching through documentation.

Do you have a favourite tech channel or few?

Also, I joined up on Fosstodon then joined Mastodon but had to create a new user. I had assumed I'd be able to cross pollinate, for lack of a proper term. I don't know if it's because of the Fosst-Mast difference or if it's all in the Fediverse.

You can "cross-pollinate" as you describe it; if you log into an account on one Mastodon instance you can post on others… but you can't sign into the other instances directly.

Many people run their own instances, and connect to the Fediverse from there. Personally, I don't, but that's mostly because I can't port-forward on my ISP plan. (I hate that, but I'm willing to sacrifice that freedom for now.)

I was logged into Fosstodon but had to create a new usere on Mastodon. Maybe, now I realize I also haven't posted anything with nothing to say.

Running your own instance just to host yourself? Interesting.

Log into Fosstodon and use Mastodon from Fosstodon. They're not separate websites; merely different windows to the same "Fediverse". The only thing that's site-specific is the "local timeline".
