Related: By default, when you post something it's marked as "insightful" as a self-vote. I don't think Saidit should auto-vote for you, because you might be posting a contentless joke. The "insightful" default reinforces the impression that insightful=good-and-wise and funny=laughing-at-you.

That may be a language feature of the software (if that's what it's called) itself. The creators' intent was for there to be no downvotes, and they are not tabulated as downvotes in terms of ranking.

I like saidit a lot, and I think this feature of no downvotes is really cool and contributes to a more community-feeling culture.

Maybe /u/magnora7 can elucidate.

Yes this is intended behavior, and we enabled the ability to change your own votes for any post however you like, just yesterday. So I consider this issue solved.

Yes, but you can change your own votes to anything you like after it's posted. We enabled this yesterday. So this issue is solved, just vote how you want it to look. This is intended behavior.

because you might be posting a contentless joke.

We encourage insightful content more than funny content. But again, you can change the votes to whatever you like after posting. The default for 90% of people will be insightful though, which is why it defaults to that.
