This is a good idea

It is an interesting idea, but who approves people to go from the introductions sub to the rest of the site? If this approval process gets hijacked by shills then the site is over. That's the weak point of it. And also it would slow growth even more. But even with those downsides considered, it might be worth trying on a new website

Trusted-team and community.
AND importantly the trusted-team and community also watches others in the trusted-team for anyone failing to live up to their trust and the site's charter declaring the important values, ethics, goals, etc.

If this approval process gets hijacked by shills then the site is over.

Everything in the open. The shills can and will whine all day long, but without effective access they can't subvert it all.

That's the weak point of it.

Wrong. The weakness is in inaction, lack of communication, and lack of community input.

_And also it would slow growth even more.

Pure speculation.
Doing something is better than nothing and policy shifts can be retracted if they fail.

But even with those downsides considered, it might be worth trying on a new website

Why not try here?

i think that i have suggested this before, and probably my idea got lost in the wash somehow..

if the OP of a thread had moderator privileges over that thread... and he would have the ability to boot offensive users out of his thread ONLY, then threads would be less chaotic...

notice the thread that i created using another userid about counseling...

https://saidit.net/s/whatever/comments/9ns6/private_counseling_8637037633_call_toll_free/

notice how a small brigade straight out attacked me... they said fuck you, etc... that simply should not be allowed and it should be the decision of the OP.

what if the OP could just edit his original post to contain lines that look like this:

ban /u/magnora7

ban /u/usehername

ban /u/jasoncarswell

and if he put that into the original post then you could have a chrome extension that would hard core remove any comments in that thread that were made by those users.

your site would rock and roll.

yes, i am an internet doctor.

if people did not have the ability to just run around and bully people and to crap all over threads, then people would be free to have intelligent conversations.

if i run a thread about counseling and i boot you from it, you could always create another thread about counseling and present your view about things.

as things are, it is impossible for anyone to discuss hot topics because the threads always get bombed by brigades... if you allow the OP to boot offensive users, the bombing will stop.

I like the original idea of having a "newcomer sub" that requires whitelisting to be able to post to the other subs on the site. This is a good idea for a new forum website.

The "OP bans users individually on each thread" idea isn't as good imo because it just causes censorship and infighting.
