Yeah I literally didn't open saidit at all 4 for months. And reddit maybe 15 minutes a day just to read /r/conspiracy. I did use youtube a lot more though, I tried to watch fun or educational stuff only, nothing political or irritating. And I played video games and watched TV shows I like.

It's not so much about falsifying a view of reality as it is just taking a break from entangling the mess to focus on enjoying it, for a while. Remember when you were a kid?

And furthermore if you want to be an example to others, don't you think that requires living a life that is lower in stress, that you get enjoyment from? I've been thinking about this a lot. If you are stressed, it makes others stressed. So helping yourself focus on enjoying life, is actually helpful to others too. But that doesn't mean closing your eyes to the world. It just means balancing the fun stuff with the stress-inducing stuff. It's all about finding a balance on a day-to-day basis.
