I just removed it all. This is what it is like every single day. You just don't see it because I usually remove it all before people notice it. It is really psychotic how much time these people waste doing this every single day. Just shows how valuable saidit must be if they're willing to go to such ridiculous lengths to try and destroy it!

It really is a shame, but thanks for all your hard work in keeping this community running.

It is indeed a shame, and I worry about the internet at large because apparently many other forums are experiencing a similar style of never-ending attacks. No problem!

Yes - and the Indian stuff seems new, though by the 88 crew.

You've likely thought of this, but as has happened at other sites, perhaps a delay of a day or more could be required before a submission. Combine this with the requirement for an email address and confirmation by email. This would require additional planning/hassle for the spammers.

Or get people with lower karma to correctly answer a calculation. If you don't answer it correctly, your message is frozen for x hours before you get to try again. And the lower your karma is, the longer the calculation has to be. A minor annoyance for someone posting one message, but it could add up for people trying to plaster the place with garbage.

Yeah, that's true. Maybe as an image file with the numbers skewed or something?

That's in place for registering and posting, but not for voting

is this site affiliated with Reddit in any way as it has the old Reddit style? I quit Reddit recently due to their over censorship and forcing people now to have email to spam them. I knew it was coming someday as it will to this site to someday

Yes - Reddit code, but otherwise devoted to free speech &c.

China has an entire city dedicated to e-propaganda and social manipulation.

it's under attack. true free speech is a distinct threat to the domination culture. things must be getting pretty hairy in those think tanks and strategy centers.

The spam attacks come in waves.
This wave seems related to the superpeople, who have been under attack on reddit. The attackers probably have destroyed their own lives, so they feel no regret destroying other people's lives.

Yep, life probably gets real bleak, real quick after you've had your stones removed.

What a timeline we live in where legitimately people say to each other "this attack seems like it's because of the superpeople" and everyone just nods there head and understands.

put a posting delay and a limit that quickly expires??? speaking of wtf do i have a limit from only one bloody post? this is why i got away from reddit only to find the same thing here when my account is not new??? wtf i have to leave here now to...???

        [–]Node 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

One way to make it more expensive for trolls and spammers is to make new accounts have to earn posting, voting, and commenting privileges, by earning credits/upvotes from the existing user base. Sometimes there's a time element in there too.

If your policies are too lax, then the trolls and spammers can make all the accounts they want with little effort. If your policies are too restrictive, then you start bouncing too many legitimate new users.

What kind of limit are you having?

        [–]rakwar 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

posting time limits...make one post and now i have to wait a few minutes after one lousy post

        [–]rakwar 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

        testing

        [–]rakwar 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

testing again lol okay the time limit is longer now

        [–]Node 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Old voat had that, and it only took a week or two of commenting before you passed all reasonable limits. It's a lot slower here, so it might take a little longer.

        Yes. You have to leave.

Spam is a huge topic. You probably have a limited view of it.

        [–]Node 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

        Spam is a huge topic.

Search results for that phrase have an interesting array of euphemisms for huge.
