At least here you can make your own sub, unlike on reddit where the admins and powermods work together to prevent any subs that aren't run by them from having any growth.

What exactly did they do to /s/ironleft? Most subs are hidden from /s/all, probably because they're things that an average viewer does not want to see. And yes that includes politics for sure. /s/ironleft is not unique in this regard.

I'm not really sure what you mean by you can't effectively moderate your sub. And the private sub probably would've been taken if it had been abandoned.

Keep in mind /s/fascism wasn't hidden from /all until they started banning people for having the wrong opinion.

That policy probably wasn't introduced until then.

The rest of this sounds pretty elaborate but I still don't exactly trust a communist sub to tell the truth.

No there are problems with the admin too. Some subs deserve to be locked and some don't. There is no community consulting on much of anything. We'll never be able to know about most of it.

Unfortunately very very very very very few people are open to that, even within our freeze peach circles. Humans have a primal desire to control things and outrank as many others as possible. And especially when they're at the top, they cannot understand the possibility of themselves being wrong. That means even the most well meaning of people will always be right and anyone else shouldn't be listened to because they're always wrong unless they agree.

What makes matters worse is that sometimes there is also a natural idolization of the leaders among the masses. Think about king worship in ancient times, or the modern equivalent of everyone copying the few popular elites. Or Trump worship, Kim Jong Un worship, identity politics, Democratic media. Eventually those people become part of their own identity and it's practically impossible for them to see any wrong in what those people are doing. This doesn't seem to be a problem here but it has taken hold over at ruqqus.

That's not true at all, though I will agree that it seems like it. People support me openly and privately, but oddly few chime in and let me be the solo unstoppable force against the immovable object of M7. Further, their silence doesn't necessarily mean they're complicit nor support the absurdities of the dictator.

Indeed. IMO, the brainwashing of tribalist sheeple is made worse with default respect - instead of earned respect. ALL TV shows reinforce authoritarianism. Even if FBI/CIA/cops or bosses are clowns, no one ever questions their authority and rights and abuses.

It is certainly a problem here, though not a huge problem. I don't know what goes on at Ruqqus.

Websites should be dictatorships. Otherwise they will get subverted. Unlike a country, it is easy to emmigrate.

There are more options than just dictatorships or democracy.

I say this because of how few democratic sites exist, even the free speech ones. notabug.io is the only one I can think of that goes purely by the votes. In fact ruqqus is worse than saidit, and voat was even worse than reddit in some ways.

This, but it's also a natural instinct. Humans are hardwired to function in hierarchical tribes.

I can't speak to other sites. I'm here for the content and the community. I'm not here because of tribalism or who the admin is nor how it's managed. I don't need to know other sites to know things can be improved here.

Humans are hardwired to function in hierarchical tribes.

Agreed. SaidIt is a tribe of truth-seekers, including the non-tribalists like me. Some hierarchies are legit and based no earned respect, while others are not legit with too many examples to list.

Yeah, I figured there was more to the story. Mods are not allowed to censor things they don't like unless they take the sub off of /s/all. You got banned because you kept changing it back to appearing on /s/all even though a condition of being on /s/all is that you don't do that. When the admins took your sub off of /s/all for you, you kept putting it back on and that's what got you banned.

For much more than that and you know it.

I talk back. I'm not banned. (Yet. And not planning on it. But not shutting up either.)
