Here is my speculation on this recent phenomena. Remember the Cher episode of a month or so ago? The style of the person who did that is a guy I recognize from Voat in the past. His style is unique. OK, when Voat went belly up, he started organizing his old friends from a sub called Soapbox BanHammer who were not loved and admired even on voat, and now they have come to saidit with their VPNs and evil intent but mostly just to piss everyone off. I'm talking about you Gabara. Anyone else recognize his style from voat? Can you technical people figure out how to get these folk outta here?

Yes, the signature approaches of these trolls are very much like 8chan trolls who were on Voat, and I think are on Gab, Parlor, and Ruqqus.

/u/magnora7 previously considered that the trolls were potentially from Reddit, to fuck with smaller alternative sites like Saidit. But the trend - at least more recently (contrasted with 3 years ago) - is much more like the activities of trolls on 8chan, Voat, Gab, Parlor, and Ruqqus. They have long memories of these sites and thus try to speak to the specific demographics of the sites. They were also previously on Reddit, before the banning of The_Donald and other subs.

Are they paid by special interest groups to do this? Perhaps, but I'm not sure if they have to be paid if their main interest is to push people away from certain sites to that they move to Gab, Parlor, and Ruqqus (Dio went to Ruqqus), or they avoid the extremist views on some of these sites, which thereby become hiveminds for the altright - impressively constructed by these trolls and like-minded altright SJWs.

In short, I think you're right, and that the trolls are from extreme right-wing sites (and previous right-wing sites) that are trying to consolidate influence (of disinformation and misinformation).

Took care of business. I was rethinking all this and it's just not possible to be sure yet if this is the voat crowd, a US gov group, or some foreign group(s) of the usual suspect organizations who may all be working in concert. As you said it's a fairly elaborate op but still simple for (a) well-trained group(s) from abroad. One thing is sure: saidit is becoming a high-profile target what with reddit users and mods already well-aligned with the non-US suspects that I will not mention since it might just stir them up more. I know; I just repeated what you said in different words. So, what to do at this point? Since I believe there are few rabid racists among core saiditers, we should keep track of new members and any troll-like activity among them while still being welcoming but most importantly we must not let them divide us. BTW, I may have been talking to a troll for the last two days but if so it is of the "get friendly with them type" but more on this later. I may not have been very helpful but I most definitely agree that something is going on right here, right now. There are lots out there who wish to do harm to this site.

Thanks for this.
