The wave of "antisemitism" is from r/debatealtright on reddit and I can assure you that no one in that groups would spew slurs or act like the juvenile behavior we currently see. This EXACT SAME PATTERN was seen on voat when the first ban wave happened:

1) Group migrates to a new platform

2) Group is cohesive and starts settling in

3) New users crop up that mostly spout ethnic slurs, flat earth, and goat-demon conspiracies

4) Mass DDOS attacks

This is an intelligent attack to break up certain groups and reddit is at least complicit in this Pinkerton-esque bullshit. Special interest groups and NGOs are likely behind it too.

100% right, and truly insightful comment. I watched Voat die. The community was originally very open, similar to here. You could vote for features and talk to the devs. Indeed that was the pattern they used. They'll ALWAYS start by creating some "niggers" sub, and will go on all subs throwing the n-word, racist comments, etc. OR sick sexual subs like "jailbait". Fortunately Saidit does not allow porn.

That said, I think this community is wiser, your comment is evidence of it. We all need to be aware of these tactics and watch out for them. I don't want another Voat and certainly not another reddit.

They're full on abusing the paradox of tolerance

Thanks for the post. Here's your share of the paid shill money beep boop. /s

No, I'm not a bot or getting paid to post here, just a politically moderate human being. We exist!

I just miss when I could do things on the internet without the politics, honestly. But now that I think about it, that time is so far gone it's like I've forgotten how. I don't even know what to do with myself anymore, and I'm not even sure if that's because of my life in general or the direction the internet took. Possibly both.

There was always politics to some degree. Especially post-9/11.

To me, the thing that changed is we went from being able to argue and disagree and have a beer afterwards to arguing and going after each other's real lives. The moment the psychos stopped letting it be a conversation and turned it into threats to destroy people's lives for disagreeing (or just silence them altogether) was the moment it stopped being fun to argue on the Internet.

The internet is the modern public forum. Those of us that grew up with it as a mainstay in our lives now use it as such. Some of us are retarded though and we don't have a Praetorian Guard to stop fuck faces from running amok among civil argument.

Please define "extremism" and "hate speech", and then reference examples on this site.

Decentralized services do exist, the problem is nobody uses them. I've variously tried, but it's much like trying to host your own IRC channel or discord server. Nobody ever shows up, and everywhere else bans you from advertising. I have always had the same problem trying to use encrypted services like secure P2P chat programs. People just... don't care.

    [–]SeasideLimbs 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

    People just... don't care.

The problem is that the spaces which now engage in incredible censorship are the ones where you find the most media and the most people. Anyone who hasn't been the victim of Big Tech bias or isn't interested in issues of (de-)centralization won't care enough yet to leave those spaces. And that's most people at the moment.

Riot.im is one example, there were some like Aether that are more like what you might be looking for. Of course I've looked at Mastodon and others. By "everywhere else" I mean advertising that there are these decentralized services on other platforms, most of the time. And in general it's really hard to start your own group doing anything. So far in life I've found it less bothersome just to do things by myself.

Zeronet looks like what I've been looking for, other than Tor or I2P and whatnot. But the main issue I've always found with decentralized services and cryptography is... the dark side. I absolutely will not open myself up for legal liabilities to host or participate in them, just for my own safety. Not to mention sanity. Arguments are one thing, horrible shit is another, if you get my meaning. I really wish Aether had web front ends as well, and as it is remains the primary reason it's not popular.

It would be interesting if for saidit's user block feature that we want to build, if we could have shared block lists, and like popular block lists people could subscribe to if they wanted.

It is pretty important to differentiate between Zionism and Judaism I agree. What the Israeli establishment is doing, is fucked. How ever I do not believe that it is reflective of every Jewish person on the planet for a single moment.

If you wish to do something yourself to help this site, feel free to join the fight over at /s/ShillWall (the sub will be finished, and a detailed post will be made, later today or tomorrow)

Oh boy it's Protect Voat 2.0. Nothing ever changes. No thanks.

Would you rather have the shills go unopposed and ruin this site for the rest of us? No thanks.

            [–][deleted] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

You are, clearly, no better. You will only succeed in becoming the problem. This is not a new thing. It happened before Voat was totally lost as well, and became a harassment sub for people to engage in downvote brigading, spamming, etc. In trying to be virtuous and control others all you will succeed in doing is becoming that which you hate.

            Go back to reddit then.

            [–]Extract 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

The difference here is that there is no downvoting on saidit.
Thus, there is no way to "downvote brigade".

Also, for "spamming", there will be clear rules to prevent that - and if people do not follow those rules, it's up to the moderators of specific communities to ban those people, like I know I will do.

The purpose of this community is to call out shills, and upvote a single post detailing why the thread seems to be made by a shill, and which internet forum subversion tactics were already used by the alleged shill.
I see no reason why a single comment chain would become "spam", especially if it can only be visible if enough people agree with it and upvote it.

            [–][deleted] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

How, exactly, do you propose to identify "shills"? You're using identical language to other places claiming to devote to doing the same thing. How can I impress upon you that you're doing nothing different from all the witch hunts seeking to do the exact same thing? This is like Groundhog Day for me. I've had this exact same argument in this exact same situation 3-4 times now. Jesus Christ.

            [–]Extract 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I'm afraid arguing with you is a waste of time, as you're clearly trying to promote a per-existing conclusion (or agenda, be that as it may) rather than actually argue why the solution wont work (which you cannot do, because resisting shills is objectively better for any site than leaving them unchecked).

Hope whoever sees this meaningless discussion comes over /s/ShillWall for some resources on how to identify shills, and information regarding what they can do to help saidit.

I agree. Let's keep this place anti extremes. That was even Saidit's original name... anti-extremes!

You want some extreme left bullshit? Plenty safe spaces for you.... Go back to reddit, facebook, twitter

You want some extreme right bullshit? Plenty of places too Voat, /pol/, Poal, 8chan... etc

I don't want a cancel culture here nor ignorant bigotry. SaidIt should be a different community. Smarter than that, more critical. It already is.

Why do you glow clowns and shills write such long and convoluted posts to make such simple and ineffective points.

Are you paid by the word?
