Saidit.net -- August 24, 2018 -- New vote button appearance, pageload time shortened to 0.096s

The old buttons were too overdone and obnoxious, so we simplified the look of the buttons. Now it looks very streamlined and clean, and has no CSS effects which reduces the processing load for your computer.

Also we have been tinkering with the chat and some new configurations and the site load time is currently a blisteringly fast 0.096 seconds to load everything, including chat.

We are also developing a new feature that will enable threads to be sorted by the age of their most recent comment, just like old forums used to do. We think this is a useful functionality that we're excited to bring to saidit. Soon we hope to see this join the post sorting methods at the top, alongside 'hot', 'new', and 'funny'.

There's a couple more things we could think about trying.

inline icons as tall as the votes text and separated by a space or two and right aligned example:

 123 :%
  24 :)

Or scores in between the voting buttons (old reddit?):

   :)

Or maybe what's here now is legit but the score shouldn't be clickable?

I can make the score not clickable, but I think it's better for it to be. I don't see why not.

What about the icons on top and the scores below?

That way we get away from the appearance of an up/down system, so people are less likely to bring their bad habits over and will immediately recognize our voting system is different then just up/down.

Nice! I like it as long as it's not too wide. I suppose the score font size could go as low as 10px to make it all fit if we had to, like for 1000+ votes. Maybe we should mock that up and see. If the buttons have too big of a big gap between them it might look bad. I think we'd have to shrink the score font size to do it right, but that's chill with me.

Maybe bigger text but smaller icons for sure or they wouldn't look much different than what's there now. Font-rendered icons would work great in this scenario. Having smaller voting buttons sounds weird though, I'm over it.
