...for his pocketbook, and the pocketbooks of the massive number employees they've over-expanded to have. He's basically financially backed himself and the company in to a corner, and is trying to spin it as a moral choice. This is something I very much want to avoid with saidit as we grow

That's it, they took money from investors so they are now beholden.

Yes not only that, but they "have to do it" because "so many jobs at reddit depend on it". Many jobs which probably shouldn't even exist in the first place. They've got mouths to feed now, and that creates an apparent moral pressure for CEOs and their profit motive. Reddit has 400+ employees at this point, according to wikipedia. 400 people * 40k salary each = $16 million / year. No wonder they're so hyper-focused on the 2020 IPO. Can you imagine saidit having to cough up $16 million every year?
