Yeah it can be annoying and confusing at times, it's still in the "early adoption" phase, and the software is very complex and there's no real consensus on the best way to do a lot of minor aspects of it, so the software still can be obtuse.

Honestly the best way is to go to a very mainstream and trusted exchange, and then put money in (often you link the exchange to your bank account or something like this, some exchanges don't even need this) and then buy the crypto you want with your USD. And then once you've bought it you can send it to other people.

This whole process is pretty annoying tbh, but it's getting simpler as they roll out bitcoin ATMs and stuff. The main 4 cryptos are supported most everywhere: bitcoin, bitcoin cash, ethereum, and xrp

Cool, I recommend exchanges like Binance, coinbase, or another popular one like bitmex. Big, established exchanges are generally best.
