This is an opt-in feature, nothing has changed on your All feed. One sub here has more users than the entire rest of the site.

Again, am I fucking speaking English here or what...Opt in, opt out, there should not be an option to ghost any sub following the sitewide rules on /all...Just the mere fact the devs made this sneaky indexing option at this point is a huge indicator of the course plotted for the entire site

It's a fair criticism, aside from the sneaky part, I just hope you can see why we did this feature and why people were constantly asking for it.

It's something the user chooses to do that applies only to them. If you don't want to use it, then don't! We're literally giving you more options, not less.

Your idea of each sub only having the top post is interesting if we had a separate page for that. But it's not good for /all, what about the large subs when they have multiple interesting posts that day? You want to just not show the second-most important post in the sub, just because it's in the same sub that day? Using your own logic, that seems like a bad idea, and that would apply to everyone instead of giving each user the choice to change their own /all feed

Did I say only one top post per sub displayed...What I meant was only one top allowed in the top of scrollable and the rest shuffled according to time of posting...You know what the reddits algo looks like on this to avoid the most populated subs taking over. That is not an issue as much as when you introduce the option to HIDE CONTENT, and please don't claim it is only to be used as a end user option, like a block option because someone already said that you offered it to one of the subs mods and they ran with it. So, it's a CONTENT CURATING option which should NOT be available for anyone in this because it's a slippery slope of censorship and exactly what is wrong with internet these days. You are just modelling this shit because it is what the trend is today among the big social networks, but you have to know that they were taken over and forced into this existence by several diabolical entities which you have not yet even been exposed to, because Saidit is not popular yet.

What would you do if your core userbase of 100 members started complaining because out of the blue 1000 users joined and completely took over the site? Specifically, if the new users made it so that you could no longer see or upvote any new posts from the pre-existing core community? You'd let them all leave for a properly balanced site because "free speech" and "democracy"?

That's the story of https://saidit.net/s/all/new and the opt-in sub muting feature.

I understand exactly what you are saying and that is as easy as putting maybe only 3 top posts from that sub to be available for indexing in the s/all....BUT ghosting it completely out of existence, that is silly and just opens up a can of ooh, we ghosted IP2 and no one complained, who is next, I hear s/whatever is politically incorrect these days, let's quarantine them as well... This is how Reddit started down the same path, they quarantined the politically incorrect subs and then one day just purged all... Also, I am here because I followed IP2, that is true, but I am not infected with fucking plague of some sort so you have to quarantine me from the site completely, that is bullshit. I want new people on IP2 from this site and vice versa

But everyone will be exposed to the posts from that sub (as well as all others), they'll only mute them if they decide to after they've seen posts from there

I'm done talking on this subject. If you can't see the broader picture, that's not my problem

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Changing the /s/all algorithm would be way more contentious than the opt in mute we've added.

[–]kokolokoNightcrawler 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

How does the s/all algo work, it shows all the most upvoted sitewide and then the dropoff is related to time passed?! Like, you already have with this the protection from IP2 taking over... Just limit the number of posts to be shown from the batch to say 3 per day...You keep telling me that it's a "opt in" mute. You don't know that I know javascript tho and I know it's a function which just blocks out anything you guys want and it doesn't matter which event listener you attach the call to , the problem is that there is such a function which you will abuse one million percent in the future for censorship purpose. I'm just waiting for you to announce the noindex on some subs too like reddit did... This is fucking bullshit, you're modelling all the other big cunts.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Just limit the number of posts to be shown from the batch to say 3 per day.

That's the contentious part! We'd have to call this something other than All. /s/all/hot needs to consider all posts, as does /s/all/new

the problem is that there is such a function which you will abuse one million percent in the future for censorship purpose

Well then I hope you're around to call us out on this when it happens.

If you have any ideas for how to mitigate the damage you think we've done with this feature, I'm all ears. I considered adding a 'MUTED' link at the top, which would appear after 'ALL' if you're using the muted feature. Then at least your muted sub content is one click away instead of like the 3 clicks it is now.

[–]kokolokoNightcrawler 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

No dude, why would you mute any sub following site wide rules....? As if you are setting the forum up for some sensitive users who can't bare to gloss over content. Don't do it at all! Comment out the function. Make a commitment never to ghost content because of someones feels. You wanna a site that is not for SJWs, then don't make a freakin safe space out of the forum please. That's all
