How to exclude my future sub from automatically being subscribed to by new users?
submitted 4 years ago by Pyramids from (self.SaidIt)
I want to see how many real users have subscribed. Not a meaningless number.
Thanks.

As far as i know, for that sepcific purpose you'ld need to go private.

How did ice Poseidon do it then? They aren't private.

They are also hidden from public view, hmm, for that option you need to be here:
sub settings [this will show up when you have your sub, in your sub] -> other options -> allow this sub to be included in /s/all as well as the default and trending lists [disclick this option].
Imma gonna call /u/d3rr to check if this also makes it so that new accounts don't subscribe. (Because I wouldn't know that).

New accounts subscribe to all public subs unless the sub is marked NSFW/over 18.

Shouldn't that be changed now? Saidit's pretty big.
So how did Ice poseidon restrict new people from auto subbing?
[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun - 4 years ago (3 children)
Yeah.. I think we'll turn off this autosubscribe system soon.
I don't think they did. Make a new acct and see what happens.

I just made a new account, and it's not subscribed to ice poseidon2.
When is soon expected to be?

Okay, I was wrong about the IP2 thing, I guess they weren't getting every user auto subscribed to them.
Anyway, this feature is now off. New users are subscribed to the 20 or so default subs only. Everyone else has can use "reset subscriptions" in their preferences to go back to the default subs only.

Thanks for the (extremely) quick update!

and 'restricted' also counts as public?
[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun - 4 years ago (3 children)
yep. restricted (included in /s/all) controls a property called 'discoverable' only.

/u/Pyramids So to sum it up:
a sub marked NSFW/over 18 does what you want: No new accounts are subscribed to it while still being 'public'. This option is found in subsettings which will become apparant when you create one.
making your sub private also, but this means you have to invite peeps, not really what you want.
a restricted sub gets auto subscribed (unless the NSFW/over 18 option is enabled)
the option I said above does still makes new acounts auto-sub, your sub contributions just doesn't show up in /s/all
