Regarding the downvote. Don't get me wrong, I love to downvote people as a "fuck you". But.. this system has a lot of potential. Eliminating the downvote allows people with differing opinions to be heard.. no matter how shitty their opinion is. Once you get to -1 in downvotes, it turns into a domino and it's all downhill from there. There are just too many simple minded people that downvote without giving it any thought.. once they see that you're already negative. It's stupid. Not that I personally care to get downvoted, but I see it as a means to hide an unpopular opinion. A form of silencing in a way. I'm not cool with that. This system pushes insightful/funny comments and posts to the top to better be seen. But, it still allows lesser posts/comments to remain intact so that it has a fair chance to gain some traction.

Although.. I think the insightful and funny vote needs better aesthetics or something (including the banner). The lightbulb isn't as bad.. but the damn smile face is so god damn awful. It's unacceptable. At first glance, it's hard to take the site seriously, it's like.. what is this, some kiddie shit? I almost left the site because I thought the smiley face looked stupid lol. It's also appears faded.. like.. not trying to be a dick, but it looks like amateur work. Appearances mean everything, and Saidit's appearance needs a total rework. It should look sleek and sophisticated. It should reflect the type of people who frequent this site. Send a message that we are progressive people.

I got a lot of opinions on the visuals if anybody wants me to go more in depth.

We almost got new voting icons a couple of weeks ago, but the guy flaked at the last minute. If you want to hunt down better icons, we'll certainly consider them.

Flat and colorless would be better imo.

I'll see what I can find. Not sure if I'd find anything though.

No worries, we'll probably find something similar to these: https://imgur.com/a/5CqtQJg

I hate to say it.. I don't like these icons either. I know my opinion doesn't really matter.. but, can I still look into it? Just in case I do find something that jives with everyone.

How about these? Go here https://www.nerdfonts.com/cheat-sheet and search for the words on the left:

  • smile - fun (shows 2)
  • bulb - insightful (shows 6)
  • pulse - insightful?
  • thought - insightful?

Hmm... I just got a couple good ideas.. it's a bit much tonight, but I'll speak my mind tomorrow. I gotta get some rest :)

I like this icon. It is nice and clean. Input "nf-oct-flame" into the search box of that website you linked.

I sent (you) /u/d3rr and /u/magnora7 a PM. This comment is just for context on where the PMs are coming from.

That flame does look nice. I guess it could work as the insightful button amongst other things...

ugh! those are terrible

It simply makes it about the quality of the counter argument and not about the amount of people who disagree. Seems like a massive plus to me. Like u/christine_grab said, so many people put waaay too much stock in what the majority thinks on Reddit. I guess that's the logical thing to do for people not confident in themselves.

Exactly, which means people will focus more on the pyramid of debate. Unfortunately this place isn't free for shills or fools to post fallacies all day. You will eventually get deleted if you use ad hominems, it is that simple.

I sometimes read the CoDOh Revisionist forums, and you'd think Holocaust revisionist forums would be filled with honeypots and shills, but that isn't the case, why? Because of the rules:

Whilst I'm not saying Saidit should follow CoDoh rules, they do provide the userbase the ability to debate and learn without encountering fallacies. If these sort of rules existed in Saidit subs, like a revisionist forum it would prevent shills tremendously.

Here are some of CoDoh's rules:

Note:

By default, this software collects IP numbers. However, that portion of the software has been disabled, visitors to the site now have an IP number of 0.0.0.0. This was done as a precaution against the police states that are prevalent throughout Europe (Austria, Germany, France, Russia, etc.).

  • By default, we do not make 'Private Messages' (PM) available to new registrants.

Rules/Guidelines

  • Do not register under more than one username, aka: a 'sockpuppet'. If for some reason you wish to change your username please contact the Moderator and / or Webmaster about doing so.

  • No name calling, period. (Ad hominems)

  • The CODOH Revisionist Forum forbids any threats or personal attacks against others. We're about debate and only debate.

  • On topic posts only.

    • That means debating credibility of a post, or lack of, is the reason that The CODOH Revisionist Forum exists. Associated subjects are bound to come up, be sure there is a tie-in, show the tie-in. Each topic represents a separate point, a post to a topic must be pertinent to that point.
  • Posts by new or infrequent participants will be spam / troll checked by the Moderator before they appear on the Forum. They will not be censored for on topic opinions they present.

  • Keep your threads / posts limited to one point. (Sort of harash)

    • If you post a quote or link from or to a book, a news article, magazine story, another website, etc., you must also comment on the quote or the link content. Tell the forum what you find wrong, compelling, unique, or important about the quote or link content. Flippant, overly brief comments are not acceptable. We want commentary and discussion.
  • Posts which lack focus or specifics are not welcomed.

  • No 'dodging'. When questioned or challenged on claims, or assertions you make in a thread you must respond directly / specifically by providing the information requested in the challenge or you must leave the topic.

THis was what I hated most about reddit. Downvoting someone into oblivion without countering anything.

True. True. I originally thought that not having a dv button was a bad idea. But after pondering on it for a bit, I quickly realized that there are so many positive reasons for not having one. And everybody defending the decision has some really great reasonings to back it up.
