1500? yeah, those guys are greedy.

i thought even the most robust cab sav will decline in quality after year five or six of being bottled.

Well, it's 50 years old. WIne collectors would easily pay that much for it. I don't believe it is a Cab Sav, I'll have to check, but it was good for drinking in 2018. Starting to get old, so either I sell it now or sip some for a special occasion. I rarely ever drink, maybe once every year.

Bordeaux reds are made from Merlot. The very best will easily last 50 years. 100 even, it's all about giving it perfect aging conditions. Most Bordeaux reds are fairly unpalatable when young: they have way too much tannin. But as the wine ages, the tannins mellow out and "melt into" the fruity flavor. A very good 50-year-old Bordeaux puts anything else to shame, that is for sure. There literally isn't anything else like it.
