I love that place. I fantasize about buying the island in the middle.

Some folks here in Windsor want to buy some land and start something. A couple guys have been working on something up by Thunder Bay where 9 months are cold and 3 months are bugs. I just couldn't even. The rest of us are more practical. With 100+ people you can create a town and your own bi-laws. One guy says as nice as it might be to have land in B.C. or wherever else in Canada, he's been checking out Nova Scotia where he sees the best prices. There's 500 acres there that includes a freshwater lake for $300k. With enough like-minded folks it might be worth it. I got skills, great and small, but money ain't one.

All that would be nice, but IMO, it would make more sense to infest and take over a town if possible. Or some kind of large non-toxic former factory somewhere out there and convert the structure into something new. In Oakland a lot of artists did this and had live-work spaces.

Oh yeah those latitudes are incredibly infested with black flies and mosquitoes. You'd have to have BTI spraying. It isn't that expensive.

Oh, Bacillus Thurigiensis Israelensis, a harmless (to most things) bacteria that thrives in the Middle-East (obviously) and kills most biting insects, including black flies and mosquitoes. Really nifty stuff! As a matter of fact, wifey & I are selecting our next town based on their using this stuff. No way I'm betting bled to death each time I step outdoors, unless it's freezing. That's just no way to live.

Agreed. Muskoka is nice April-May and end of August-October with the summer ruined by bugs and November-March too cold.

Bacillus Thurigiensis Israelensis

TIL. Thanks!
