I'll applaud the effort to make safe devices, but with a proprietary CPU whats the point? What does the Librem phone offer that a standard phone with LineageOS and taped over cam doesn't provide?

This is a stepping stone on the way to full freedom/privacy. What it offers over Lineage:

  • 3 hardware kill switches
  • Not based on Google's Android, real linux
  • Open source bios - I think, maybe more open than Lineage
  • Less proprietary firmware- only the phone modem (and whatever is in the CPU) I think

A phone running linux is nice, a phone running gnome makes me interested and a phone running linux apps is fantastic (which it supposedly does after reading up on the linux capabilities).
