Not sure of good alternatives. Every prepper site mentions Mylar. I always thought that it was suspicious that we'd be allowed to stockpile food to last for 25 years. Now, I see why.

Canning was targeted and so trusted Ball/Kerr lids have an increased failure rate that experienced canners have noticed.

What is the best way to preserve food that will last and doesn't result in you poisoning whoever consumes it?

So, I did contact one manufacturer. While they don't test for leaching, the bags are a multifilm and the PET layer isn't next to the food. Instead, a LDPE layer is on the inside.

Initially, I was relieved since on one chart LDPE was "safer", yet after searching for info, it seems that even LDPE leaches some stuff.
