This is pretty understandable, very few city/suburb people ever trained their dogs or know how to handle it. I any situation in those parts when a cop is involved with a situation and a dog comes running out of nowhere nobody knows what it is up to. [I mean, heh, America, try running up to a cop as human and you'll probably get filled with a magazine or two]

In the more rural parts some farmers have trained their dog as over aggressive, so when the police show up unannounced those things are unstoppable killing machines unless the owner or someone else they recognize as leader shows up.

It may seem cruel but I know someone who lost their fine-motor-skills in one of his hands because some (untrained) citydog randomly bit his arm and tore up the wrong things/nervs.

I'm not saying all the dog shootings are legit, but from my experience it's more the fault of the owners for not training them properly or not paying enough attention to their dog.

Also, if you are a dog owner and you get caught by the police, what you think your dog is going to do if it's aggressive? It's gonna get shot. 10.000 dogs a year is too little a number to account for all the untrained dogs owned by pieces-of-shit owners.

I find the 'officers killed by dogs' such bullshit argument, like because of that one cow we eat beef? A dog bite can mess you up real bad, if you have the stomach just search. Surviving something doesn't mean everything is A-okay, try getting mauled by a dog as a kid and go through life with a messed-up face, I think most people would give their left nut to get that dog shot and that kid a normal life.

What's odd is houston police has a trial for all 250 dogs they shoot yearly. One trial for all of them, all at once. And of course the police are never found guilty of anything.

And just a few days ago there was a police raid at the wrong address and the first thing they shoot is the dog, which is about 15 pounds. What a threat /s

Sometimes it is justified, but I would wager in the US only about 5% of the dogs shot were actually necessary. The police just do it because they know they can 100% get away with it.

That's a case (especially the latter) that's a bit more nuanced than the image.

Yes, but it's a microcosm of the macro data. I would imagine similar things are happening all across the US
