Gollum asks Sam "what's taters, precious" since he doesn't know what Sam is referring to when he references taters. Sam replies "Po-Tay-Toes" since taters are short for potatoes. He then says the way to eat coneys (the rabbits that gollum has caught) is to "Boilem, mashem, stickem in a stew". Many a meme was made of this interaction.
