Ya. I could get rid of them all - but it's a whole file folder box. Not cheap shipping. If you're serious I could take photos to prove it.

Because they're collectible and I'm dirt poor, I would hope to get a fair offer too, though we can hash that out. I'd certainly be willing to bend further for a cause or a partnership.

For example: I would be extremely excited to find someone who has a set up or something to photograph/scan magazines and/or books and then share them via torrents and/or a website or few or IPFS or whatever. Not really copyright approved, but Google did it and this could be potentially valuable to the world in a tiny way. I don't have the greatest library on Earth, but what I do have is a mixed bag of moderate to very interesting - much more than just VICE Magazine - a whole room.

I'd be willing to host a server or few, but only share content on a VPN or something so that links never points to me directly - and my server could be a VPN node that points at other servers sharing stuff. I don't know if that's a thing or if it's effective or if it's just amateurish and stupid. I'd have to look into it and learn all about it. I'd also need to find the funding or gear (ie. partnership). I'd be fine if the gear was only a loan and would be fine if it were co-admined from afar, but I would insist on 4 things: that I would own the drives, we would raid the drives, the content would not be encrypted, and that I would have total access to the drives (to monitor and make sure nothing like CP or other serious entrapment stuff were put/stored there).

Um ... I probably wouldn’t have the room but could be willing to contribute to the digitization - let’s discuss via dm what sort of resources you’re thinking are required. Plus I’m trying to be less attached to physical things (suffering and all that) but I can’t really seem to give up on my digital hoarding!

Did you get that "digital hoarding" term from me? I've certainly mentioned it enough. I'm obsessive compulsive about it. I wish I were more tech savvy and efficient about it all - and had solid, safe, and secure ways to share it all.

I feel the same way about my physical stuff now, for the most part. I have 80 books on Haida culture alone, and when I finally had the opportunity to direct on an animated TV series I passed because I was "too pure". Might have been for the best. Long story. I didn't actually expect anyone to even identify with my ideas. Before the internet we only had books and physical media.

I would love to simplify my physical clutter in a big way, but not just trash it as I kept it all for reasons. The only clutter I would want to keep in my life is for making things and being creative - a workshop/studio. Unfortunately with the world as it is, I don't expect that people out there will be wanting to "collect" what I have, even if it were free, because "good homes" may be a thing of the past or at minimum become a rarity.

When I lived in the Bay Area, I visited the Internet Archive where they had "book scanners" they build which had mounted cameras above a well illuminated glass apparatus that lowered to flatten the pages. While this would be far from common, I should think it might be a potentially valuable service and/or rent-able gear, should I ever build one of my own. It could also be a good summer job or part-time job for inexperienced young students, though certainly tedious. Beyond that I haven't really thought about it further.

If my grand story is fortunate to have success, then the ideas above are among my top priorities, below only my 2 major productions and helping SaidIt and WikiSpooks (and I have many ideas on those I have not yet shared anywhere).

Didn’t get “digital hoarder” from you (I’m new here) but I suspect a lot of us from the same era (?) (pre-popularization of the internet, just pre-sharing mindset) had a lot of physical objects we collected (books, magazines, comics, CDs/DVDs, etc). Oh the money I wasted, never to be recovered! I’m now trying to minimize - but it’s a tough slog. (Partly because I feel like the “stuff” is weighing me down, partly because I no longer have the room.) All to say, I can’t stop collecting (info, images, ...) but at least the space it occupies is (mostly) virtual. Good luck on your journey - it sounds like the story has much to be written (both literally and figuratively).

It's nice to meet a kindred spirit! OMG the money I "wasted". Thousands of CDs, etc. I shared a lot. I never recommended mediocre books so I've lost soooo many of my favourite books to "lending". I only hope they passed them onward and only really miss my margin notes (that I was likely not going to reference again). The story has been complete for yeaaars, but getting it out in a compelling and clear way is the trick. Everyone knows the Titanic sunk, but it's HOW the story is told that makes it interesting. Also layering things up with extra meanings and/or serving multiple purposes with a single line is for efficiency - while seeming natural is also tricky. There lies the craft. To make it seem as effortless as Olympic gymnasts flipping through the air as if it ain't no thang. I hope to speak with you in September, if not before then.
