Everyone involved should go to jail for murder, like any normal citizen would.

Not just laid off and then rehired at some other department. Actual consequences. Decades of jail time. Cops should be held to a higher standard than the rest of us, not a lower one.

This was one of the more ridiculous cop videos I've ever seen honestly. I wonder what the full context is. After the first barrage of bullets (or whatever he was shot with) when he was already on his knees, before they let the second (insane, unnecessary, ridiculous) barrage of bullets go, they were all shouting "get on the ground"; lmao, he was already shot and had been on the ground from the jump.

It's hard to deny no matter what side you're on from this video, that it appears they wanted to kill him and all were in a possibly unspoken agreement about that. And if they've done this once, how many other times have they done it and gotten away with it? There's no denying this is murder. If we just saw them unnecessarily murder one person, how many others have they unnecessarily murdered?

I wonder how many rounds were fired, that was a lot, all at close range, all at person already on the ground.

Edit: Just read the comments about him swatting at their guns and crawling towards him; I noticed that the first time I watched the video. Still, that does not warrant an execution-style murder like he experienced. He could have easily been disposed of at that point in a way that wouldn't have been lethal (they out numbered him, one or two of them could have ran behind him and apprehended and restrained him from the back while he was distracted from the front), idk, no matter how you look at this, I can't see a way that this was necessary.

For those who don't want to watch the 48 second video, here's what happened:

3 cops are gathered around a man on his knees about 15 feet away. They are facing each other. It's being filmed from inside a neighboring house. 2-3 cops open fire simultaneously and fire about 11 rounds in a short time. The man on his knees falls to the ground.

It looked far more like an execution than any sort of self-defense situation.

I am disgusted. This is dystopian. The police claim he had a piece of rebar and was threatening people, as if that justifies this nonsense.

I figured this would be one of those waa waa some dirtbag got shot. It isn't. I watched this a couple of times, there are a couple of rounds early on about 5 seconds in that look justified. After getting shot trying to charge/run, the guy is on the ground on his kness, moving but not much. Then 25 seconds after those first rounds is the massive unload that kills him.

That second set of gunfire looks like an execution to me. I don't see anything to justify it, at all.

Please watch the video, this account of it is a lie.

The guy clearly tries to get up and come at them when the first shot is fired. He falls back to his knees and proceeds to crawl towards them while swinging his arms trying to swat away their guns. They keep telling him to get down on his face and he refuses.

Don't try and make this about me and accuse me of defending the cops, I am not making any claim about the validity of this shooting. I am pointing out facts that OP here is hiding to push his narrative. Don't be sheep.

[–]magnora3 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

What is the timestamp of when you think he got up?! I don't see anything like what you're describing.

[–]Canbot 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Literally 2 seconds into the video.

The guy recording it even says "oh shit, there he goes". Right before the first shot.

[–]magnora7[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Yes that's when they fired the beanbags and tasers at him. But for the last 10 seconds or so, he didn't really make any significant movements.

He certainty wasn't charging them the moment he was shot, that was like 20 seconds prior, and he had sat back down...

[–]Canbot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

I can't tell what they fired but I certainly wouldn't trust you to tell me after you clearly tried to act like the guy was compliant and never tried to charge them.

The guy never complies with orders to get on the ground. At the end right before the barrage of fire it looks like he pulled something out. But it is mashed potato quality footage. Based on this footage, as far as I can tell, he very well could have had a gun.

[–]magnora7[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

He was apparently running around threatening to stab people, so it seems much more likely he had a knife than a gun.

Either way, it doesn't justify an execution.

[–]Canbot 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Calling it an execution really doesn't leave any room for honest, reasonable conversation.

Obviously in a world of tazers, that should be the first thing they use. Just as a general rule. But to say that if they didn't that automatically makes it murder is not reasonable. This is an extremely short video of an extremely long encounter, anyone drawing damning conclusions from it is unreasonable. Maybe the guy was having a bad day, maybe he is a violent POS that goes around attacking people and just happens to have survived this long on luck. Maybe the cops tired everything they could think of to diffuse the situation, maybe they were callous, trigger happy, power hungry POS who were salivating at the opportunity to kill someone.

Literally nothing can be cleared up with this edited, grainy as fuck video. In the hands of a different person they would claim it shows big foot or a UFO.

I would stand with you to call for an investigation, demand that body cams be released, follow up with family etc. But anything more is simply not reasonable.

I mean I agree. But the fact is they're going to drag the court case out for months until everyone forgets, and then simply fire the police officer and then re-assign him to another district as they have done for unwarranted police killings in the past. It's not like this is something new.

[–]Canbot 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Police accountability is definitely a problem we should work on. There should be a watchdog group that has a full time staff with lawyers and investigators who can keep track of this and organize campaigns to pass new laws and regulations on police conduct. I am normally pro union but public sector unions have gone too far in eliminating accountability. It really will take new legislation to reign them in.

[–]Thorium_Reactor 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It looked like he was reaching into his pocket.

[–]Raxel 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I agree, I understand how the cops' ROE determined they'd shoot the guy. I certainly wouldn't want to have been near him. Cops aren't there to keep the fight even, they're there to control the situation and end it.

[–]magnora7[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They could've backed up a couple feet instead of killing the guy. There were many other ways to handle the situation that would not have resulted in a death.

[–]magnora7[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

So get this media distortion:

This says the guy had rebar: https://thefreethoughtproject.com/houston-pd-kill-man-knees/

This says "armed" but "threatening stabbing" (so he had a gun and a knife?): https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Suspect-dead-after-officer-involved-shooting-in-15217234.php

And this says he had a gun: https://www.khou.com/article/news/crime/officers-shoot-kill-man-who-was-firing-multiple-rounds-outside-home/285-ce3cb145-9ddb-4b64-bc24-2040bf21ac85

What the hell. What are the facts? What is with these 3 different narratives? Seems more likely he had something he was stabbing or hitting with, and saying he had a gun was just a justification to kill him.

[–]mharmless 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Armed means any weapon. A knife would cover both.

[–]magnora7[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

"armed" article says this:

One responding Houston police officer spotted the suspect and reported shots fired over the radio,

So it is specifically both gun and knife

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

he waved both his empty hands at them. Unless you are Mike Tyson or pro MMA, your hands are not legally a deadly weapon

Maybe, just maybe, the guy should have done what the officers asked him to do. Before the video even started I thought, I bet it's some guy not doing what he's told.

    [–]magnora7[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

So you think someone not doing what they're told deserves death? That's messed up.

    [–]Red23 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

Ahhh, I get it now, you have issues with authority. Did you not get on with your stepfather?

    [–]magnora7[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

I think you're the one that has issues with authority, since you think someone not doing what they're told deserves death. What kind of attitude is that? That's what they do in North Korean Prison Camps

    [–]Red23 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Not at all, it's all about using common sense. If an American police officer (or three) is asking me to do something while pointing a gun at me, I do as I'm told. What part of that is so difficult to understand?

    [–]magnora7[S] 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

The guy was on obviously on drugs and needed help, not death. They could've subdued him.

    [–]Red23 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Suicide by cop, plain and simple, he even reeled in the taser by the wires ffs.

    [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I understand where you are coming from. However, if any officer threatens me and I am in a position to properly defend myself, then we will clash. The only authority they have is a loaded gun, and they aren't the only ones with one.

    [–]Red23 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Then you'll die, simple as that.

    [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, something like that?

If you push people, they push back. Simple as that.

    [–]Red23 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Exactly like that. Push back as much as you like, but if you're in the wrong, you'll lose.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You'll "lose" even if you're in the right.
