This is one of the more ridiculous stories I've heard in a while... the police state becomes more evident all the time.

Can you imagine the trouble you or I would get in if we fired stun grenades at random cars? However this guy probably won't even get fired, much less see jail time.

Also since when do police have "stun grenades"? Yikes.

Humphrey suffers from a medical condition of sickle cell anemia and asthma, making him very fragile, according to his family. The teen weighs no more than 90 pounds.

Of all the people to misidentify. lol

To be a fly on the wall when the cops were told.

Funniest thing in this whole article: iT mUSt hAVE beEn rAciL PRofiliNg!

Dude looks like his brother. Oops on the mix up, but that hardly makes it racist.

The fact they threw a stun grenade from a moving car at someone they had never even spoken to... that's the creepiest part. They just straight ambushed some rando.

The fact he looks like his brother makes it a little bit more okay, but still they should be sure of who they're attacking.

They tried non-leathal. Walking up, asking to see his hands, only to have him do suicide by cop isn't always the best choice.

Yeah but maybe following his car until he gets out of it is a better option then attacking poorly-identified random people

True. They could've done it better a hundred ways.

I'm best guess is they were 10 minutes from clocking out and wanted to go home early. Lazy on their part, but nothing illegal.

but nothing illegal.

I don't know if that's true, hopefully it was illegal

Misidentifications happen. It'd be difficult to make accidents like this illegal.

That's why police have rules of engagement. They're not allowed to just randomly attack civilians.

It's like when Chris Dorner escaped, and then LAPD shot 2 random ladies in a blue truck that didn't even match the description, because they weren't in control of their nerves. That sort of thing should be illegal or else the police can just basically kill whoever they want and claim it was misidentification, and the regular citizen would have to live in fear of that

They already can. So long as the body cam footage shows they believed they were doing the right thing.

The Stephon Clark shooting is an example of this. The police had little information to work off of. In the pitch dark of night someone went into a shooting stance, aimed the phone like a gun, light glinted off the gun, and he refused to put his hands up.

The only reason the cops didn't get charged with murder is how they acted during the shooting.

This time the police confused one brother for the other. They appeared to handled the situation poorly, but until bodycam footage is released (which could take 2 years) there's not enough information for us to know if correct protocol was followed. It sucks. We're gonna have to wait.

the regular citizen would have to live in fear of that

That is why every cop should have a camera. There's no need to be afraid if you know they're being recorded. It's the backwoods county cops in bumfuck nowhere without cameras that make me nervous. It's also the reason I hope more people buy Tesla style cars that are covered with cameras.

Clearly a reason to ban guns... /s
