In filmmaking you can put gels, filters, screens, shades, and barn doors on lights to specifically add light or control the absence of light, but you cannot go negative - unless using computer animated negative lights that darken (like casting shadows) for normal virtual and special lighting setups (for optical effects such as x-rays). Pondering a real-world negative light may lead to interesting thought-experiments.
