    complex, quick computational problems that today's electronic computational platforms can't manage effectively or as well in a similar amount of time.

    Well yeah, it would be an analog computer and that has a number of advantages such as solving matrixes quickly.

    In filmmaking you can put gels, filters, screens, shades, and barn doors on lights to specifically add light or control the absence of light, but you cannot go negative - unless using computer animated negative lights that darken (like casting shadows) for normal virtual and special lighting setups (for optical effects such as x-rays). Pondering a real-world negative light may lead to interesting thought-experiments.
