Sounds like she got in trouble more for leaving a 10 year-old home alone than letting him walk alone.

When I was 10 I biked round trip 22km (13.6 miles) from my home to the nearest Toys"R"Us to go plan on the power wheels.

When I was 12 me and a friend took the the Go-Train from Burlington, Ontario to Union Station in downtown Toronto, transferred to a subway train going to Vaughan Station and then bused to Canada's Wonderland (Think Canadian 6 Flags amusement park) Stayed for about 6 hours before heading home. All without the internet, we just figured it out with old paper maps and transit schedules. FYI that's about 70km each way (~43 miles)

I think they will drop the charges on this one and she will probably sue them as well. I hope she gets like a million bucks! Man I couldn't image having a childhood with some adult always hovering about.
