Additionally, initial investigations show a disproportionate number of these youth are queer.

It's almost like being on the LGBT spectrum is a form of mental illness, particularly paraphilia. 🤔

You go back 32 years and homosexuality was officially considered an actual mental disorder that a person could be get medical treatment for, but I guess political correctness takes precedence over truth this days.

That's one possibility. Or...

  • in many states, the age of consent for same-sex intercourse is older than for opposite-sex;
  • parents are more likely to complain to the cops about a 19 y.o. gay guy banging their 17 y.o. boy than they are about a 19 y.o. straight guy "dating" their 17 y.o. daughter ("they make such a nice couple, and he's so respectful");
  • police are more likely to investigate when the people involved are LGB;
  • prosecutors are more likely to lay charges;
  • and judges and juries are more likely to convict;
  • and combining all of these, you get a disproportionate number of LGB youth being unjustly labelled as sex predators.

By the way, you should be aware that paraphilias are not mental illnesses. A paraphilia is any sort of atypical or unusual sexual attraction or behaviour. That covers the entire field from mild kinks that do nobody any harm to dangerous and disturbing perversions. With homosexuality being very common (about 5% of people are exclusively homosexual, and only 50% are exclusively heterosexual) there is nothing either atypical or unusual about it.

Same-sex attraction was added to the DSM in 1952 despite the complete lack of actual scientific evidence that it was a mental illness or disorder. It was then removed in 1974 (49 years ago). Homosexuality has only been considered a mental illness for 22 years of the thousands of years that there have been gays and lesbians.

You know who else used to be considered suffering from a "mental disorder"? Slaves wanting to be free. Priests and monks having second thoughts about taking vows of poverty and obedience. Women wanting to own their own property. Girls accusing their father, uncle or the family priest of molesting them.
