My first girlfriend was 36 when I was 17. It's a little weird, but nobody was harmed. It certainly wasn't rape.

This kid was potentially 12. Even if he was 15, there is a lot if emotional and mental development ongoing in addition to sexual development.

    Nope - I still have the raging hormones. He's certainly not the guilty party. An adult teacher - female or male or shemale or wild animal - is supposed to help kids learn. As the sexual maturity of a kid develops, the rest of their lives are also impacted by that developmental stage of initial puberty. An adult can have a negative impact on the rest of that kid's life. I know, kids are sometimes - or often - VERY happy to shag teachers, if that's what the kids want. But this also betrays an adult/child trust between teacher/student. It sets a precedent of mistrust and/or exploitation. It's also a form a grooming by the adult, even if unwittingly. Anyhow - there's a lot we can say about the problems of adults bumping uglies with kiddos. Kiddos should enjoying being kids. It's a great time in their lives, potentially, without the sexual intervention of adults.

    I don't disagree with you, but shit happens. Yes, teachers banging kids should be frowned upon, but it's more a biological issue than a criminal one -- usually. There are certainly predators, but sometimes teachers and students just fall for each other. Doesn't mean people need to go jail, maybe just get them a new career.

    7 years isn't as big of a deal when both people are adults.

    I agree with this sentiment, but you make this sound more simple than it really is. I'll give you a true story example. When I was 17 I had a girlfriend who was 17, we had sex, it wasn't illegal. Then I turned 18 first, and it was illegal, then she turned 18 and it wasn't anymore, this is ridiculous. A teacher that has sex with an 18 year old high-school senior wouldn't be against the law either, but I think this is more problematic than an 18 year old student bonking a 17 year old student which is against the law. Its the social standing disparity that creates the perception of exploitation in these situations, rather then the violation of some arbitrary age. Teenagers are very much sexually mature in the biological sense, they are bursting with reproductive hormones, and pretending they are children in this sense is delusional biology denial

    Americans can't even agree on what an adult is. 16 to drive a car and risk others lives, 18 to be armed and sent to war, but 21 to have a beer. The pure arbitrariness of this categorization prevents me from agreeing with your statement about minors and adults - I don't think anyone has a clear and consistent definition of 'adult', I mean we know what one is, but I challenge you to draw you a very precise boundary between the two in way that isn't absurd. I don't want anyone being exploited, sexually or otherwise, but I really don't think the current way of conceiving of adulthood is the best way to prevent exploitation
