There are different number systems. I'm going to write decimal to the left so you can understand.

In binary,

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 = 1, 10, 11, 100, 101 and so on.

In Trinary,

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 = 1, 2, 10, 11, 12 and so on.

Basically if your base is, say, 8 (octal number system) then you write 1, 2, 3... till 7 and then write 10. Then 11,12,13 to 17 and write 20 and so on.

If you do the same to Trinary you get

1,2,3,4 = 1, 2, 10, 11, ...

Oh yeah forgot to mention, the numerical values are the same. As in, if you ask me for 10 eggs but in binary, and another guy asks me for 2 eggs in decimal, i'll give both of you the same number of eggs. I know it's quite obvious, but thought that that might become a source of confusion.
