That's not the Chevy bowtie. That's something that resembles it. This is fake news.

Moreover since when does Iran import cars made in America? Fake news.

It's the same photo. That is clearly not the Chevy bowtie. It's some sort of knockoff.

Since when does Iran import cars made in America?

nobody said anything about a bowtie, it looks like a 2016 silverado https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5aJefsiSpI

Bro. Every single justification for US military involvement since WW2 was a fraud. 100% fiction.

This man was assassinated by the US military in the most cowardly manner.

Do you honestly think the military/media were telling the truth this time?

[–]Chipit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Cowardly? Bro. War by assassination is the kindest, least lethal form of war ever invented.

Instead of leaders herding masses of us in front of them to be mowed down by machine guns and artillery, they directly attack one another. What's not to like?

[–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Assassination doesn't prevent wars, or save lives.

[–]Chipit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

It's the best way of making war that results in the fewest lives lost. BUT it threatens the lives of elites directly. Why do you think they always screech about it and insist wars should be fought the old-fashioned way?

Why do you think they always screech about it and insist wars should be fought the old-fashioned way?

Because assassination is cowardly and disgraceful. Honorable people do not have their enemies assassinated.

Assassination is only a political option if a person/institution is morally bankrupt.

It's the best way of making war that results in the fewest lives lost.

That's interesting. Can you name some conflicts where expected casualties were actually minimized due to targeted assassinations?

[–]Chipit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Huh? I'm sorry? What's the code of honor that we agreed to before the conflict?

It is very very honorable to make war by assassination. Just kill the elites that start the wars. Easy. Why force our teenagers to kill masses of other teenagers? What did any of them do to deserve that?

WWII almost ended a year early if the plot to kill Hitler had succeeded. He was also almost killed in 1940, before the invasion of Russia, something that would have saved tens of millions of lives.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

What's the code of honor that we agreed to before the conflict?

The Geneva Convention, International Law, etc.
These are noncontroversial.

Most people find assassination ethically repugnant on a fundamental level, and don't need written laws to understand that assassination is unacceptable. This is an innate concept.
Children don't need to be taught that murder is amoral. It's surprising that you don't agree with this.

WWII almost ended a year early if the plot to kill Hitler had succeeded. He was also almost killed in 1940, before the invasion of Russia, something that would have saved tens of millions of lives.

This is a hypothetical answer. It's also possible that more people would have died if he was assassinated. There's no way to know for sure.

Do you have any actual historical evidence that assassinations can save lives?

[–]Chipit 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The Geneva ConventionS (there are several) must be agreed to ahead of time by both sides. And then they only apply during a state of war.

The only reason it "outlaws" assassination is because elites wrote it and they put their own interests first! They don't want to do the dying! Let us take a bullet for their dreams, cause they sure ain't doing it.

What's wrong with killing the prick who starts wars? The teens don't want to kill each other.

this post is not about any of this.. but since we are talking about it, soleimani was a man wearing a uniform of a soldier. i never understood anyone choosing to be a soldier for a career. a very wrong decision in many ways as we can see from all the veteran suicides and ptsd cases. live by the sword, die by the sword. as i said before, the really lamentable deaths in war should be the civilian deaths, not a death of an old general with blood on his hands.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

not a death of an old general with blood on his hands

Veteran terroristic generals are people too!

The civilian population is not in a position to end conflicts, so does this logic still apply if this "old general with blood on his hands" is working to negotiate peace in the Yemen conflict?

[–]useless_aether[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

The civilian population is not in a position to end conflicts

it is, or would be, by simply refusing military service..

[–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

by simply refusing military service

We both agree that the potential is there to end the conflicts, and agree that this should happen.

Unfortunately, it's improbable (at best).

I'm a hypocrite for advocating the refusal of military service.
