People's opinions and all the more the opinion of the ignorant people shouldn't bother the ones who live for deep religious of philosophical truths, but the opinion of the crowd is still dangerous because it can stop people from taking action and eliminating the evil in society itself...
So Kierkegaard thought in his metaphysics that ethical people have a duty to change people's minds in order to make them see the truth. Life is in great part a struggle to influence the opinion of the masses...
I see philosophy as the most relevant of truths, but also one of the weakest by itself. Ethical people often become the subject of ridicule by the ignorant masses who protect the sense of superiority their group has...
That's why I think moral people and all the more nationalist have a sacred duty to fight their way to the top and protect the collective good of the nation itself. By having a healthy nation, one can help others as well.
