I love The Pleasure Principle! Films is another track that has great lyrics, relate to that song in a heavy way lol. It's such an awesome album, each song feels like it's carrying you, taking you somewhere unexpected in a good way. I feel like every song on the album is great musically and lyrically.. Cars is such a jam..

I love the production on Metal. If you haven't heard it, Replicas is an amazing album too, this is one of my favorite tracks from it: Are "Friends" Electric?

He has a super interesting background, supposedly he suffered from ASD, and if it weren't for that, he would have never made music. Cars supposedly came from his illness, anxiety and feeling safe.. in cars..

"I was in traffic in London once and had a problem with some people in front. They tried to beat me up and get me out of the car. I locked the doors and eventually drove up on the pavement and got away from them. It's kind of to do with that. It explains how you can feel safe inside a car in the modern world... When you're in it, your whole mentality is different... It's like your own little personal empire with four wheels on it"

Wow, the Cars back story, thanks man. It has taken on a whole new meaning for me. That ASD bit is very interesting too.

I've heard covers of Are Friends Electric, but never the original. Here I go!

I kinda feel like I almost get him now. His obsession has always been technology, and Cars shows you his fascination/obsession/introspection (especially if you watch the interview I'm about to link to). If your typical artist were to make song about cars, typically, you'd expect the artist to use cars as a muse to brag in some way.. But he's focused on how cars make him feel, the song isn't for other's, or about communicating a message, it's about/for him.. Just like the rest of his songs

But yeah, after I saw this interview when I was on my listening binge, it changed everything about his music to me. His songs have different meaning now (the part where he speaks about how ASD has affected him as an individual and a musician is around 7:15, it's very interesting imo): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTKHZeP-IZQ
