Not a specific true story of an actual soldier and his interpreter, this is what happened to so many interpreters and their families. The Taliban considered anyone who helped the Americans as traitors and wiped them and their families out once we left.
Bursting with action, and drama, this one is gonna leave you thinking, and wondering, long after the film ends.
I won't bore you with details, but suffice it to say, the story is about the interpreter doing his best to bring the argeant to safety, miles from the base, deep in enemy territory, during the Afghan war. What could go wrong??
Plenty as you might imagine, and director Ritchie explores it all with his typical punchy violence and stark drama. This is a thinking person's movie.
For purists, there are a couple moments where you have to realize you're dealing with Hollywood, for example a soldier takes cover behind an empty 50 gallon oil drum, that's probably not going to stop many projectiles, but whatever, just give them a bit of slack and it's all good.
4/5, for anyone who is into military action and drama.
edit: this review I did with no help from Chat GPT, its all me, for better or worse.
