The "elites" believe that if they warn the goyim of what they are doing it absolves them of the sin, it is a Talmudic tradition where they use pilpul to trick God. Poltergeist was one such warning, stealing white children and sucking out their life energy sounds an awful lot like blood libel. And you can find clues throughout the film.
